Finally was able to justify DirectTV/Sunday Ticket by reconcilling last year's bar tabs with the cost of the service. I've just ordered the equipment, but I want to know if there are any 'scams' pertaining to the service order? Do I need to be on the lookout for anything that looks too good to be true? Any heads-up is appreciated.

This from a guy who hasn't even had cable in his home in nearly half a decade. Very excited to go directly from bed to couch to fridge to couch for seven hours on Sundays!!! AND to be able to hear the game sound, too...as loud as I can stand it!!!

I don't know of any scams - but where did you get your hardware from?

I know that there are several ways online to get the hardware for free when you buy a package. Thats what I did.

Then I went back later to this site which had great prices and got a good second receiver.

I might get a DVR here soon as well, I was thinking I should do it this week before the season starts.

I went to directv.com and got the 2-room deal for free ($14.95) if I get Sunday Ticket and Total Choice+ 1 year committment. I can handle that. I am concerned that the 4 months of premier service for free that it offers turns into 8 months at the regular price. I read the terms of the offer and didn't see that, but I secured a Primestar system (back in the day) for my business and was virtually poked in every possible hole by the time I could unload that fraudulent piece of crap. Once bitten, twice shy.

thanks

From my experience DirecTV is a first class operation. The only thing is that if you don't call to cancel the total choice premium after the 4 months, they won't turn it off and will bill it to you. I can't think of any "scams" over the last 4 or 5 years I've had it. I think, they think there service and quality sells itself so there isn't any need to scam anyone, and for the most part it is.

No scams to my knowledge. Just typical words of caution:

- Make sure you've got a clean shot at the satellite (in the East, it's the south-southwestern sky).

- Make sure your apartment or condo doesn't forbid dish antennas.

- To discontinue any service - like at the end of any free promo stuff you don't want any more - you've got to call them.

- They charge you something like $5 a month for each additional receiver you hook up.

- When a heavy rain storm approaches from the south or west, the picture often locks up. (For example - as the pitch was heading toward home plate just before McGwire's 70th).

- The Total Sports Package used to be great - lots of orginal "live" programming from each market. But 2 things have happened of late: (1) the various Fox channels run the same programs on every channel - albeit on a time-stagger and (2) they black out 90% of the major pro sports events even to out of towners - including NFL preseason games and (unless you subscribe to MLB) local major league ballgames.

But there are still 4 things I like about the package: (1) local high school football playoffs on several local FoxSportsNet affiliates between Thanksgiving and New Years, (2) occasional local college lacrosse games from Upstate NY and Maryland, (3) latest Cardinal news and highlights each night on FoxSportsAZ and (4) latest StL Cardinal highlights each night on FoxSportsMidwest. It therefore becomes a personal value judgement as to whether the Total Sports Package is worth the extra $10 - $12 a month.

Aside from the above (and for a variety of other reasons), I love DirecTV and I love Sunday Ticket.

I have been watching the Cards for years now on DirectTV. No scam but as mentioned the satellite will lose connection in a storm. Can be annoying. Other than that just enjoy the games.

Dam if that isn't a nasty visual! Did you even get a kiss?

Seriously though, If you went straight to DirectTV you will be fine. Like Hookem said the only thing you should watch for is cancelling the premium package as soon as possible. I sent my cancellation notice a couple days after I signed up and as soon as the free trial period was over it turned off just fine.
