Has anyone made their annual call to Directv to complain about being overcharged.. etc??
Any tips or tricks to try this year?

I want to upgrade to the wireless Genie receivers too, but I'm leery of the cost. Anybody have this?
Pros/cons?

Wow I was JUST going to post this thread lol
I am going to call next week, I usually say I can get a better deal with Cox. If you keep bringing up your cable provider they usually give you some sort of deal for ticket , if you don't like what they offer just say "Thanx" and wait a few days, you'll get some sort of deal. By the way, I have Cox for internet and this works with them too by saying you;re going to Centurylink
I don;t have the genie but if you see if they have a promotion for an upgrade maybe?

If you want the power to make the NFL more fan friendly you will not bend over and buy their garbage package from DirectTV. Paying for every single NFL game is DUMB. You really want to pay for both Bills-Jets games? etc, etc, etc,

Says the guy that lives in AZ and goes to every home game and is able to see every televised road game. It may be dumb for an Arizonian but for us outa staters its worth every penny and then some... I get EVERY Cards game and tons of other great games usually not available...

mryeahbut:

How long you been with Directv? I upgraded to the whole genie system free of charge a little over a year ago... Its about the standard now if you've had your old boxes any decent amount of time.. GENIE rules!

There is that point. But, even you Shane, are paying for stuff you don't use or want. If that makes people happy, I guess the NFL is happy too.

I went through this for years. The easiest thing to do is say you have to cut off service to lower your bill. Say the only reason you have DirecTV is for the NFL Sunday package. Do not take the regular CSR offer. Turn it down and they will transfer you to the Retention department. They can make offers that the regular CSRs cannot.

My last deal was NFL Sunday ticket discounted (basically free after credits), Free HBO & Showtime for 6 months, Genie receiver and two Genie minis for free. All I paid was shipping. They don't offer the same deals to everyone. It depends on how long you have been a customer and what your customer rating is.

Honestly, I don't miss playing the annual game anymore and I really don't miss Sunday ticket. I thought I would but I don't.

I switched to Dish Network. I kept getting ripped off then they would credit me. Over and over. I don't know what I'm going to do come football season but hey Hooters has the games and cold beer.

Ya I threatened them I'd leave and I did. I'm so happy with Dish and the price lock I love it. Good thing the Cards have nationally televised games this year. :)

I just got the Genie and love it. Its nice being able to dvr any number of show/games from any of my televisions. With NFL ticket I actually watch most of the truncated replays of all the non-prime time games.

Not every AZ-nan can get to games either, some circumstances just allow for that all the time BUT I just re-read the OP and yes I do have the Genie and I concur it is awesome to be able to watch and/record in different rooms, I got it for free too

I posted this recently in another thread... I have received Sunday Ticket for "free" for the last 6-7 years at least.. By calling customer retention, and bitching politely about how bad they are already raping me.... I have little hope for this year, as the typical "sweet southern belle's" I got more times than not, seem to have been replaced by people in India or the Philippines (post ATT&T purchase) who don't give two craps whether I stay or go.

I'll update with my results soon!!

Same here. A couple months ago, I called to report a weird glitch that was happening where it wasn't recording certain programs. I was on the phone for 20 minutes with the guy who was in India. Then I get my bill last month and it's $300 with all kinds of channels I never ordered. So when I call to see what happened, she referenced the date I called to report the glitch and said their records showed I called to order all those channels. I was pissed. I guess they work on commission and the guy was miffed that I took up 20 mins of his time. What's really aggravating is that they don't even offer an email address for support issues. So nothing is documented. You have to call and hope they get everything right. Of course they didn't. Just got the new bill and one of the channels was still on there. Now I have to call again. I hate these bastards. If it wasn't for the Sunday Ticket, I would leave so fast.

Shane, I was going to post about you in the 'Whatever happened to' thread since I hadn't seen you in a while...:)

I've had Directv, I dunno, maybe 10 years. I still have my original HR21 DVR. It's never given me problems so I just kept it. I did add a DVR in the bedroom with whole home a couple years ago... I figured it would cost me to upgrade so I never got around to it... Don't fix what ain't broken kind of thing.

It's just getting under my hide that I'm paying $128 a month and I don't have any premium channels, and xfinity is the only game in Albq and it's freaking $85 for 15 mb... Over $2 hundy a month and now I gotta pay for NFL on top of it all. Yeah, I know it's a 1st world problem but I'm still bitter.

The GenieGo for out of home recorded content doesn't work half the time because of static router addresses changing and I've followed the instructions online a dozen times. Couple that with the fact that I live in the stone ages and I don't understand squat about any of this stuff, I barely got my Samsung smart TV operating. I just want to hit the on button and watch a Cardinal game for crissakes.

OK, rant over... Call them for me bruh and give them a sob story.. :D

I have dish network....get redzone every year...love it...since the cardinals usually score a lot,...they are on rezone all the time....and if its a good game, the guys at redzone want to see it too...so they stay on it and just flash to the other games when someone scores.
between redzone and national games...I feel like I saw them all the past couple seasons.
way cheaper than directv... just upgraded to a hopper system....can record two shows while every tv in the house is watching something different...can access recordings from any room...and we have every channel dish offers for less than 200 a month.

Thought about doing that with a buddy in Phoenix. If I could, I'd be able to cut the cord altogether.

lol too funny..If you've been a customer for 10 years you will get the genie for free. Just ask for retention. Tell them that you upgrade new customers and that pisses you off being a long time loyal customer you want it too and art going to pay for it.

Dish doesn't have Redzone this year.

I put one at my mom's house last year. I'd realized the SlingBox has a TV tuner built in, so I skipped the Sunday Ticket package and bought a Leaf antenna to use for just the Cards games. I stream it to my Roku, and it works great.

I think that as soon as DirectTV gets competition for NFL Sunday Ticket, it will lose hundreds of thousands of customers. Subscribing with them is a monthly ordeal---you have to haggle with all kinds of phone reps and then your bill is chock-full of extra fees that negate any of the discounts you receive when you try to negotiate the fees with them. Even to watch the local baseball team, the Red Sox, I have to buy a Sports Pack over over $10 a month, that is not included in my Total Choice package that costs $75 a month.

I basically watch fewer than 10 channels, including HBO and Showtime which I bundle with my Sport Pack at approximately $40 a month. When I add in MLB Extra Innings and NFL Sunday Ticket, I am paying on an average of $180 a month...and that's after negotiating for 3-4 $5-$10 credits.

If you don't call them one every other month or so, when your new bill comes it is surprise, surprise. I honestly believe they think they wear customers down and bank on them just accepting whatever the bill says....and this exploits customers who pay their bills electronically.

Plus, just as a caveat, now that DirecTV is partnered with AT&T, it may not be as easy to negotiate lower costs, especially with regard to NFL Sunday Ticket. My recent negotiations with DirecTV have not been as easy or helpful.

I am also an AT&T customer and when i tried to bundle my TV and cell phone services, I was sent to a 3rd party that asked me to provide all my personal info from scratch, just so i could get a measly $10 discount a month. I was so fed up, I just said forget it.
