It saves the team 10M in payroll $$$$, giving them an option to divy out a nice chunk of Bonus $$$$ to re-sign AW and very possibly help extend AB.

A Dansby resigning would do wonders as well, mtl.

Again, we'd darn sure better HOPE this isn't the rationale, because it would either mean the Bidwills are just being cheap again, or the team really doesn't have the cash flow to be a real NFL franchise. No team still under the cap should have to cut payroll money to extend another player. It's a ludicrous premise.

Reading Sando's blog, it sounds as if cutting Hood removes the cap hit of cutting Laboy. I don't like that much either, because I think it shows a FO weakness in being forced to do it, and because I wanted Hood as the nickel. Still, I might not like it, but at least it's a somewhat palatable reason explaining why it happened.

I have to disagree. Both are pro-bowl level players. Sure their roster spots can be filled, but their character, leadership and level of play can not be easily replaced in my opinion. It all goes back to what Rod Graves calls 'retaining your core players.'

Removing the CAP hit of cutting LaBoy? How much was that? From what I've read here on posts he cost us something like 8M in salary and bonus for the one year and only negative (-.5M) against the cap figure for this year. That's hardly reason to justify cutting Hood unless they have plans for the extra 10M in salaries they are saving on the cuts of James, Hood and LaBoy. What gives?

Again, you may not like it. But it's reality in today's economic environment. Boldin was not about to be accomplished this off-season. Otherwise why treaten to move him? Now, who knows?! Maybe this helps pave the way for something.

heh, I was talking about Hood and LaBoy, not AW and Boldin.

I believe Hood and LaBoy can be replaced.

For those of you who keep asking about what it will take to resign Dansby, (IT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN). He does not want to extend his contract with us. He wants to test free agency and he even fired his agent for negotiating with Graves. We should rework AW as soon as possible, and then work on Q's extension. Essentially, right now Dansby is holding a significant portion of our CAP money for ransom. What should have been available for us to use after restructuring his contract is gone. We will never see it. This may force us to wait until next year to rework Q's contract.
