Is this a forgone conclusion? I have not heard those rumors in a while. I know they signed Dyson and Proehl, but will they keep Muhammad?

I believe early in the off-season it was thought to be a foregone conclusion, but now they've somehow freed up some cash, and he's expected to stick with the team. At least, that's the last rumor I've heard floatin around various message boards.

This is the last mention of Muhammad from kffl:

Panthers | What About Muhammad? - from www.KFFL.com

Pat Yasinskas reports for the Charlotte Observer Carolina Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad will count $6 million against the team's 2003 salary cap and he could be a cap casualty or trade bait. It's more likely the Panthers will keep Muhammad and restructure his contract to reduce his cap figure.

I guess it doesn't look good for the Cards if that was their guy.

I emailed Pat Yasinskas, Panthers beat writer from Charlotte Observer on the Muhammad subject and here is his response:

"Good question and I've had a hard time getting a good read on this one. But my best guess is they won't do anything wth Muhsin in June. I think they'll go to training camp and there could be a move then if Kevin Dyson is healthy and some other people look good. Like I said, though, that's just my best guess and anything is possible."

It looks like this is a 50/50 deal. If the beat writer doesn't know, then the Panthers are doing a fantastic job at keeping their plans under wraps.
