DOCKETT, SMITH STAYING AWAY FROM CARDS’ WORKOUTS
Posted by Mike Florio on April 2, 2008, 10:27 p.m.
A league source tells us that two of the Arizona Cardinals’ starting defensive linemen will be boycotting the team’s offseason workouts.

Per the source, defensive tackle Darnell Dockett is staying away because he wants a new contract. Defensive end Antonio Smith won’t participate because he wants to be traded.

However, the source says that the Cardinals will grant neither man his wish.

Dockett has started every game but one of his four-year career. Smith started 13 games in 2007.

Did you read in there that Bowman from OK. St. was arrested for possetion of marijuana.

That sure sucks about Dockett and Smith however. I"d grant Smith his wish if he's going to be obstinant about it. He was tendered at a 1st round tender and he can sign a new contract next year. What's the deal.

He should try working at a Wal-Mart or something to get perspective. I can't relate to these guys. They're getting paid well to play a GAME they love to play.

Not concerned, however, as far as Smith goes, has he noticed that nobody has come knockin trying to sign him?

Both represented by drew huh? Isnt Q represented by drew? hmmmmmmmm......

Well anyway the DD thing i think is right now kind of had a feeling this would happen. He wont go to workouts and might sit out a week or two into training camp but he will be back before the preseason gets under way.

Anything from that fairytale factory is just that. Do people actually pay to read that??? Yeah, a "league source"....maybe it was mexican league soccer.

Smith surprises me a bit. I for one think he is pretty under-valued by most of the fan base. He isn't a pro-bowler by any stretch; but, he is a more than solid starter. As I recall, we did give him a 1st round tender, so I am surprised he isn't feeling the love here.

If I were Smith, I'd sign the one year tender and play the part of the model team-mate this season, knowing full well that some desperate team will throw bank at me, ala Calvin Pace.

As for Dockett, who didn't see this coming? His comments after he signed his extension last year were basically that it was the most he could get, but he felt he was worth far more and would basically be playing the 2007 to prove it. He acknowledged even then that he would expect a new contract before his current expires.

Hopefully it all works out. Meanwhile, if it gets ugly and both players skip any part of the preseason, I expect the Graves bashers to unite and ride again.

Go Cards!!!

Case closed. As opposed to Anquan Boldin, neither of these players has played at a consistent pro-bowl level for more than one season. To give either a new deal at this point would be a Grave(s) mistake, and an unforgiveable insult to Q IMO. We'll be seeing ya boys.

:yeahthat:

Dockett's going to have to do it again, in order to be reworked. I think Quan has earned it first, Wilson second at this point. But Wilson hasn't requested it, nor should he, yet.
