Does Breaston's success make it easier to trade Boldin?

Speaking from the Arizona Cardinals front office prospective. Does the better Breaston performs each week make it easier for the front office to justify trading Boldin?

From a personal stand point I think it would be a terrible PR move, but from a business standpoint there would be more money to go around. I think Breaston is the 3rd WR this team has been searching for since they moved from St. Louis. It would be a shame to move anyone from this team.

Dude has stated multiple times he doesnt want to be a cardinal. There is NO reason why we should be paying two receivers that much money as it would gimp us somewhere else EVENTUALLY.

We dont need Q.

It gives us a security net that losing Q isn't the end of the world. But if we cannot come to an accord with him and his agent this offseason, he probably needs to be traded.

God I hope that doesnt happen

I don't think this franchise falls apart if Q is traded and we've proven that we can win without him Yes, it comes down to business and the fact is, Q is going to wear down at some point as his style of play is not conducive to longevity. I say move him while he still has value.

With Breaston improving more each week, yes - it makes Q expendable. I would hate for him to leave though.

I've taken to calling Breaston "The Hybrid." I swear, he's like a hybrid Fitz-Boldin. On some plays he catches the ball like Fitz, then gets YAC like Boldin. Pretty impressive.

That is the $40 million question, isn't it?

Breaston has developed into a solid #2 WR and he's only going to get better. It usually takes 3 years for a WR to really acclimate to the NFL level. I can't wait to see how good he'll be next year and the year after.

Plus, with JJ developing as a solid kick returner, Breaston could potentially leave special teams all together and take his place on offense full time. He's a great open-field receiver and really runs nice routes. He's not as agile as Boldin and doesn't cut on a dime and change direction like Boldin (Boldin's agility is insane IMO), but he's faster and can get a little more open on certain routes because of his speed. He's also a wonderful upgrade over Bryant Johnson, but that goes without saying.

Anquan gets injured. It happens every season. He's like the old suns PG Kevin Johnson, when he's healthy he's unstoppable, but it'd be great to see him play a full season. Boldin is too tough a player and really needs to think more about self-preservation on the field than he currently does. At the same time, that'll make him less effective at what he does best, so it's got to be a fine line to cross for sure.

I'm hopeful he'll be here next year, but I think the Cards will be fine without him. Hopefully it'll end up like Briggs in Chicago, constantly complaining he wants out of town but eventually settling that he'll be here for the long haul.

from a FO perspective: a bit easier maybe

from a fan perspective: no way

:raccoon:

This is a really good post, Arthur, sums up how I feel as well.

I love watching Q play and I have both red and white Boldin jerseys. He has earned a $10M/year contract and needs it next year whether it is with the Cardinals or someone else. NFL careers are so short, and especially the way he plays, he needs the money now. I want him to stay with the Cards, but if they can't pay him, Breaston's and Fitz's play over the last couple of games makes the team's options less desperate.

Whatever happens I (and I really hope the Cards can look in the couch cushions and find the money), I will always be a fan of the Q.

Q is a Heart & soul, give it ALL-guy...

and I would LUV for him to stay. BUT I also believe that IF a player REALLY wants "out", LET HIM GO!! I expect the Cards to make a MORE than fair offer at some point. The next move will be Q's. BUT I wonder, if we stay on course and keep winning, will that sway him. I've said it before. WHEN the Cardinals WIN a Super Bowl, THAT team will be remembered as something "Special". Who wouldn't want to be part of that legacy?? GO CARDS!!

Why would we want to trade away a player that comes along once in a decade or so?

Yes it makes it easier for the FO. However I still contend we WILL extend him and he will retire in RED!

I was liking Breaston at WR even last season. Just an off the wall thought. As Boldin seems to be so good at running the ball after the catch, I wonder if anyone has thought about him playing at RB. I know it's not going to happen but it's interesting to fantasize what he could do at this position. Again I'm not talking reality here but I think he might be an excellent RB.

Yes.

Q's bargaining position decreases with every 41 point game/Breaston emergence/huge emotional victory over Super contenders. He's a very good WR who can't stay healthy and is starting to get up there in years.

If he wants a Fitz contract, I think the Cards would be morons to give it to him. I love the guy, but over the last two years we've seen this team win it's biggest games (Cowboys/Steelers) and be able to score without him. With the emergence of Breaston, if Q really wanted that kin dof jack, I'd have no problem with us trading him for a #1 and using that money to bolster the D, but that's what the FO would HAVE to do if they got rid of Q. They couldn't just sit back and be content with just a pick. They'd have to be proactive and use whatever money was gonna be allocated to Q to making an impact FA signing. That would allow us to get younger, more talented and get us better balance offensively and defensively.

Glad to see another Houston Cards fan. There are more of us out there than is thought!

Let's not forget, he still has 3 years left! They don't have to do anything with his contract until after next year if they really want to. In that amount of time, Breaston could develop like crazy.

How easy would it be to deal Q if Fitz were to get hurt?

Doucet's would have to develop to a solid #3 for it to be "easier" to trade Q.

Most publications I read, have WR as the bottom pf the barrel in impact in a game, You can win with not great WR's, O-Line have a bigger impavt. Boldin is my favorite player, but I dont see him in Red next year, And we see having 1 great WR with a good supporting cast is more then enough, then you need. Ask the Lions how important having a super WR corp mean, it means nothing. The Irvins and Harpers and the Rices and the Taylors of the NFL world have shown us.

I hope Q comes back and plays lights out, because it will net us even more when we trade him. And it will be the 100 percent right call to trade him this coming offseason.

You really can't argue with the logic... If the team could turn Boldin into a 1st or 2nd round pick and bolster a weaker position, you have to do it. The window of opportunity is so small in this league you have to play for the now.

Based on two games against depleted secondaries, no. Based on a fuller body of work similar to the last two, maybe.

But most successful teams find a way to keep their pro-bowl caliber core intact. I'd rather have a trio of Fitz, Q, and Steve for the next few years, especially if there is post-season play involved. When you get to the playoffs, you usually get pretty stout defenses. That's where you see the benefit of two pro-bowl caliber receivers, and a solid third guy like Steve.

Of course if Q really wants out and it's all not just a Rosenhaus negotiating ploy then it's all a moot point.

Perfectly stated.

I think a better questions is: Is Dansby playng himself out of a Top 5 Linebacker contract next season?

I would say yes. He still is pretty invisible. He was one of the more quiet guys yesterday even in primetime.
