Does Keim Have The Guts to Trade Up In the First Round?

This is the last I post about this because people have their views & others have theirs & they won’t change.

Giving up picks the majority of the time isn’t the problem trading up it’s not selecting the right player. There’s plenty of examples of teams trading up that hit on player X & plenty of examples of teams missing on player X that traded up!!! Imo moving up in a round is just like buying a Ford Pinto or a corvette, one will cost more than the other. Doesn’t matter if you’re trading up for Julio Jones, Wentz, Mayfield, David Johnson, John Brown, the Badger, Budda Baker etc. all of the players have been assessed values & stacked accordingly based on a guess by scouts & teams.

Every single player picked is based on a guess, a hunch & a hope. It’s not an exact science, so yes players will bust. Trading is a gamble, but so is sitting pat & letting the draft play out pick by pick, team by team. You can lose out on talent & difference makers just like we did last season by sitting on our hands in round 1...by one simple pick!!! Giving up an extra 1, a 2 & possibly a 3 isn’t going to cripple any franchise!

Let’s hope whatever decision Keim makes is the right one. I will go to my grave saying we won’t win a World Championship without a stud QB!!! Peace out

Only thing I disagree with in your earlier post is you don't need a top 10 drafted QB to make it to the Superbowl. Hell we proved that with Warner. Warner proved it a couple of times as a matter of fact. Point is you can draft a QB later on & have them be a stud QB. :) Peace out & cheers.

the media pundits like to create controversy so they can generate ratings and clicks.... what they dont want out there is the simple fact that Sam Darnold has been the first overall pick in this draft since this time last year. it really makes for boring news days if everyone knows who the top guy is.
they learned that back when andrew luck was in the draft. the only reason RG III made any noise on draft day was because the skins traded so much to go get him.... then tannehill sauntered through the draft a few picks later.

they spent more time discussing Brandon Wheedons age than they did who was going to be the top overall pick

controversy creates discussion...discussion creates clicks and ratings...clicks and ratings generate advertisers and make those dweebs feel like they are important.

simple fact remains. Sam Darnold was the best QB in this class a year ago and he still is today.

but will cleveland pick him at #1?? who knows,...its cleveland....

but if Darnold somehow managed to slide all the way to 15....14 GM's need to be fired with extreme prejudice monday morning

by your way of thinking...if that slide actually happens we should pass... because there must be something wrong with him if all those teams passed

but all those guys passing on him does not change the fact that he is the best QB prospect in this draft class
You're definitely correct about the media and they wanting controversy.

However, wasn't there a can't miss QB, best prospect since the previous year, guy back in 2006? Where's that guy now?

Trash heap of USC QB's:
Leinart
Barkley
Sanchez
Cassel
Booty
Kessler

Surely, Darnold is a can't miss selection, though! ;)

whose second, third, or fourth??

We've talked about this. It's the second, third, or fourth guy off the board, I don't care who that happens to be. Yes, in theory, you're right that it could be different on others boards, but at the end of the day, still come off the board in order.

I'm not saying we shouldn't pass, I'm not saying we shouldn't take some risk, just that we shouldn't sell the farm when all of the evidence goes against us.

Dude if we get Rosen at #15, I'd buy all of you people I've been fighting with about QBs for months a case of beer.

He's my favorite of them all.

Wait shouldn't they buy you the case of beer? They wanted to trade the farm for this dude, and because we stood pat they got their guy and still have the farm?

Man... Rosen screams Jay Cutler to me.

I’d be happy if we got him if only because he DOES have sky-High upside and we would have finally at least TRIED to get a QBOTF, but there’s a fine line between being confident and a cocky douchebag and he falls in the wrong side for me in my gut.

Maybe, but I'd just be in a state of joy that we didn't give up a bunch of picks. Beers for all.

That's what happens when you don't have a criteria of your own to offer.

No, it’s not. It’s what happens when someone don’t like an approach and decides to put words into the sender’s mouth to make it fit his argument.

What is your criteria (or expectations) for the four QBs?

I want a quarterback the team can win with. Not because of. Together with. I want a quarterback the team respects and will follow.

This is the last post I will make on this topic until after the draft. We won’t agree no matter what either I or you write.

I apologize for putting reasonable words into your mouth when there were none there to be found. It is like trying to fill a black hole in outer space---it's a tough job but someone has got to try.

I want a quarterback the team can win with. Not because of. Together with. I want a quarterback the team respects and will follow.

Now there is a set of criteria that we all know exactly what to look for in a college prospect. You forgot to add 'Can chew gum and throw the ball at the same time.'

We might agree if you ever stated your opinion in understandable terms. Draft winds up on Saturday. Bet you can't wait until then to reply.

Hey, how 'bout the guy who has been agreeing with you all this time? As a Bigfoot, instead of beer I'd prefer a basket of tree roots and a dead 'possum. Thanks.

The Cards did trade up, so I guess I was wrong. They didn't move up into the top 4 or 5 where I thought that they would need to go to land a top 4 QB but they did.

I guess I will have to eat a little crow. Even if I'm not thrilled about the pick.

I said #15! Next game we're both at though, totally buying you a beer. And my Rosen jersey!
No biggie brotha JK you Solar. It’s all good, just enjoy what I think is about to happen with this franchise in a few short years

I hated the Badger pick years ago as well because of my beliefs against weed. Had a #32 shirt 2 years later lol

In my defense, I DID say I'd be happy if we got him!

and the more I thought about him today, the more I saw the difference between Cutler's apathy and Josh's *******-cockiness. I still worry about that part of his persona, but like I said, he's got sky-high upside and it was a move I thought we needed to make even before we drafted him.

and to be honest... it is kind of a kick for the QBOTF to be one of the tribe. That just NEVER happens at the most important position in pro sports. Literally. (hope I'm allowed to say that).
