About the lack of FA signing. The Cap is tight. The Cards don’t want to mortgage their future with reckless contracts. Keim is waiting to see who falls through the cracks; who drops their price and who still gets cut, like Dunlap just did. They will sign players. They signed the critical ones they needed to keep. Most spots can be improved through the draft. Lots of changes still to come. They won’t fix the coaching defects, but the team will get more competitive.

TBF, we’re still in the same spot we were at the beginning of the offseason: the third-best team in the NFC West.

If we traded Kyler, we’d probably STILL be the third-best team in the NFC West.

Making the playoffs will be harder next year because we play the AFC West and we probably won’t be favored in any of those games.

Keim has never had any problems mortgaging the future for reckless free agent contracts before. Why the change of heart now?

And waiting for guys to fall through the cracks is exactly why some here are unhappy. While the contenders are engaged in an arms race, we are waiting to shop at the dollar store, aside from giving big money to a 27-year-old running back and a soon to be 32-year-old tight end.

the third-best team in the NFC West.
with a wild card in SF

assuming they go to Trey Lance -- I can see the SF offense with more high-end QB plays, but also more low-end ones --

A couple points of disagreement.

1 - That losing Chase, Kirk, Jones, and Hicks will make us more competitive. There are reasons each were let go, but the only places where we have legit players to step in is ILB (but they are unproven).

2 - Most spots being able to be improved in the draft. We are a poor drafting team, that has struggled to draft players who contribute immediately and only have 3 picks in the top 5 rounds.

3 - The mortgaging the future comment. When you have a QB on a rookie contract, the time is now, not the future.

This is probably the right frame of mind to be in. I admittedly get triggered when I think about how we have wasted Kyler's rookie contract and then do this.

I used to feel this way but it seems like “cap restraints” aren’t real anymore. Creative teams keep finding ways to get around it. It seems like we are being passed by as other teams figure this out. We have (maybe) 1 more year of Kyler on his rookie deal. If there’s a time to go all in, this is it. Allen Robinson would have been the perfect compliment to Hopkins on the outside. Z. Smith is exactly what we need to replace Chandler. JC Jackson would fill our need at CB, and his contract wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Reddick took less than Chandler to sign. I’m not saying sign all of them, but just 1 of them would improve our team immensely.

I feel like Keim is playing Checkers while the Rams are playing Chess.

This team beat the 9ers twice last year and split with the Rams. We were the best team in football prior to losing DHop, Watt and Hudson. We will now have Ertz for an entire season. I don’t like losing Edmonds but it was inevitable. People are acting like we were 3-14 last year. This team will still be in the hunt for the division and playoffs.

I'm just as concerned about the failure of the coaching staff to 'coach up' the young talent as I am about Keim's poor drafting. It shouldn't take until year 3 or 4 to get good production out of young talent like Kirk and Edmonds. (See Hasson Reddick.) Or year 3 for Simmons.

I do agree with taking a longer term approach than pushing all the chips to the middle of the table right now.. Save some ammo for any surprise releases and for extensions.

I'm sure they are in contact with some players they want to sign. Something like "If you don't get signed the first couple of weeks to a good contract in FA we'll be calling you".....or something like that...

I mean, people never stopped moaning about his big free agent overspends and now he stops people moan he isn't making big free agent overspends.

Some would think he can't win.

How have we wasted his contract? You spent the last 3 years saying he was behind the Burrow's and Herbert's because he played so little in college and it was going to take him years to learn to properly read defenses and pick up the nuances of the game.

At most, the only real shots we were ever going to have if that was the case was next year and the 5th year.

I'm wondering if something is wrong with Za'Darius Smith. Packers could have restructured him but didn;t try. Then he signs a below market deal at $12m a year and backs out. Now nothing on him for days regarding interest or talks.

I wonder if he's still carrying an injury or has a chronic issue. He missed all last season with his back and had back surgery. That can really mess you up.

Last year was desperation for 2 people on the final year of their contracts. They have the luxury of a more long term focus now. Whether they earned their extensions is questionable but at least they have to clean up their own mess.

I still think Kyler needs a good #2 receiver or all the other moves may be for nothing. Hope Keim has a plan or gets lucky.

The Cardinals can't go into next season not giving giving Kyler what he needs to be successful.

Like some help on the Oline and another quaility WR?

Hard to see SK being successful

If Keim were throwing around money like some of the other GMS are spending people on here would lose their shizz. I still expect him to sign some quality but not bank breaking talent before he extends Kyler that is.

I have a hard time taking you serious when you say this. Especially with your outright open criticism of Kyler regularly during the season. I don’t have the sense that you actually believe he’s “the guy“ capable and ready to get us to a SB anyway. Even with higher quality talent.

All of that and a pass rusher is needed.

I'm trying to remain optimistic. Glad to see the Cardinals added CB Jeff Gladney in free agency which was another need.
