The top three Euro guards are listed as Luka Doncic, Nick Calathes and Norris Cole respectively.

When looking at the other two PGs on the list, this is not elite company.

They don't look much like peers if you check their PIR. I don't know how it compares to PER but for Doncic, Calathes and Cole they show 26, 17 and 13 respectively so his performance does seem to stand out in comparison.

This is good that his stats are much better but it does say something about the level of competition.

PIR and PER are not even close to being equivalent statistical measures. The European statistic is pretty much a simple mathematical calculation of "good statistics minus bad statistics." PER is much more complex evaluation of a broader range of statistics adjusted for various factors like playing time and pace of game.

That's really an exaggeration especially as I am not trying to equate them. I'm not suggesting his PIR of 27 is approximate to a PER of 27, just that a 27 beats the hell out of a 17 or a 13.

I see the opposite here far more often and I'm fairly neutral on him.

I'm at the point where nothing he does now will either make me want him, or make me not want him. I'm a lot more confident about this draft than I was a month ago as I no longer worry that we will make a bad choice and take Doncic. If we take him, we'll have good reason to.
Should we not also consider the personal aspect of our new coach in the decision of whom to draft? His comfort level with Doncic is a factor that no other draftee presents him. It's human nature for a Head Coach to consider that.

If we are lucky enough to wind up with the 1st pick, I hope the Front Office counterbalances that inherent situation with an impersonal decision.

He's had a lot of stops, Slovenia was just a short-time job. And I just don't expect a Head Coach to shoot himself in the foot by insisting on a player due primarily to familiarity. His career quite possible rides on the success of whoever we draft. My understanding, he'll have input but he's already acknowledged that he knows very little about most of this year's draft class.

KoKoskov does offer a scouting report on Doncic without getting into the draft debate.

This is from an article written today by Scott Bordow:

“We call him wunderkind,” Kokoskov said. “He’s an upcoming, rising star. Luka is a very talented player. His ability to pass, that’s the hardest part of the game, the most difficult part to teach. To be a good passer you have to understand the game. It’s basketball IQ. He’s really unique and special at that age to understand the game well and to be a team player. He’s not necessarily playing point guard but he’s a playmaker who makes everybody else better on the court.”

“Hopefully (this is) not a final product of Luka Doncic,” Kokoskov said. “He’s 19. If you ask me, ‘Does he have space to get better in every aspect of his basketball game?’ He can be better. He’s a great passer. He can be better. He’s a good shooter. He can be better. Can his body be better? No question. I think there is a lot of room for him to improve.”

In his interview today on Doug and Wolf (radio) Kokoskov said he knows a lot about Doncic and he likes him, but he cannot be the last word because he has not scouted the other players under consideration. I really like Kokoskov. He is very level-headed. Maybe the word is wise. He is wise enough to recognize what he does not know. I have confidence because Igor will be a great source of information for the scouts and McD, so if they do choose Doncic they will have the best info, but he will not pound on the table and demand him.

Good situation all around.

Yes, definitely sounds good in his interview - very reasonable and flexible. Hopefully, that will translate to how he coaches. We have a history of stubborn ones.
