Well the Cards are out of the playoff chase again, so its time to start to compile a wish list for next year.
QB- I am Ok with Warner. He has played good behind a crap OL. I think he has at least one or two more decent years left in him. A middle of the pack running game will make him even better. With that said, a Qb of the future needs to be found soon.
RB- With a better OL, i think JJ will be fine. Lets chalk this year up as a learning expierance for JJ. Next year will be a better evaluation of him. I like Shipp, Femi, but we need to get a bulldozer for short yardage and goal line situations.
Wr- Pretty good here. Q and Fitz are studs. We need to see if McCoy takes the next next step and becomes the 3rd WR. Real question mark is johnson. He may not be around come start of next year. A small Az Hakim type Wr would be nice to have.
TE- I like Bergren, but we have no one who can seal off the corner on the running game.
LB- Good here IMO. With Hayes back next year, should help. Dansby is solid. Huff is OK, not quite sure he was worth the money. With a year under their belt, Blackstock and Mitchell will show marked improvement going into next year. Darling is a solid backup. Hopefully Blackstock can unplant Huff next year.
CB- Nice group of Db's. But you can never have enough. Always an area to add depth via free agency, or the middle rounds of the draft.
Safeties- Wilson is a monster, although he tries to make the knockout hit too often, and is out of position from time to time. Keep coaching him, and he will be special. We could use an upgrade at FS. Need better speed.
P and Kicker- PLayer is solid, but please get a real facemask. I keep waiting for the day when he eats someones forearm, and his face looks like road kill. Rackers is a stud.
Now the real areas of concern.
OL- This group needs to be blown up for the most part. The only guy that merits staying, but barely is Davis. For all the hype on this "future" pro bowler, he is a dissapointment. I want Davis to go back to LG. Hopefully Brown will mature and be a decent RG. Center is a big question mark. Steph and Leckey are not the long term answer. With a solid center, combined with Davis and Brown in the middle, we should be able to move the pile, and not allow a push from the middle on passing situations. Wells may do ok with his speed, and Ross hopefully will get it turned around. Depth needs to be added. I am not opposed to drafting a Tackle, or acquiring a solid vet G ( Hutch ) Denny and Bidwill had better come out of the draft and FA with at least 2 solid lineman added to this roster. Now the last remaining thing to do is get a real OL coach in here instead of Lindsey.
DL- A big run stuffing DT is a must. Ngata (sp?) from Oregon would be great. David would be a good backup. I think with a big horse next to Dockett, he should flourish with the one on one match ups he would face.
Special teams- New coach here, and please can we get someone who can be a decent threat on kick off and punt returns. Swinton sucks.
* While QB is a need, fixing the lines is a must. I would not be angry if the vast majority of new additions via FA or the draft were from these areas. Just my humble opinion.
