He won me big money in my fantasy league with that last pass to Sproles! Down by 3 and he gets me 6 plus 5 more for the 300 yard bonus! BOOM!
*championship*
Crazy he broke one of the biggest records for a QB and he won't win the MVP.
Drew Brees is a class act and great player. I hope to God Brady does not pass his record on Sunday or any other time for that matter.
I still give Marino a small edge for best passing year ever for a QB. Not only considering the rule changes, but he got his 5084 in 564 attempts, Brees got his 5087 in 622 attempts. With 58 more attempts, Marino would have had another 500 yards. Marino also had 48 TDs. What may be the most amazing about Marino's was that it came in his first full year as a QB. Not surprisingly, he shredded the Cardinals defense for 430 yards that year.
Good for Drew! Class act!
And defenses were allowed to be more aggressive when it came to bumps and holding.
What Brees has done is amazing and is a record accomplishment. But it's 1b to Marino's 1a performance.
Marino was a master in the pocket. He had gimpy legs, but could do all of the step ups and shuffles to buy time. That and his quick release were amazing.+1
...and a great, great competitor too. When you hear coaches talk of mechanics, and footwork, the example of how to do them perfectly is Drew Brees. Marino did it with his arm, Brees does it with his feet.
Marino will always be the first, and when he first broke the record, he did so at a different time in the NFL. When the league wasn't, air it out, when the league didn't have "holding after 5 yards."
Regardless, Brees deserves to break the record now, and for today's NFL. No * needed, because he is the kind of player I think would have broken the record regardless of when he played.
Good for Drew Brees, and he has one game to go!
