Using draft picks is sort of a way of converting the value of Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson and Jae Crowder into a currency of sorts.

It's like turning their value into a common denominator, so one can better see the value of the players traded for Kevin Durant.

That's 9 first round draft picks (8 unprotected) and 5 second round picks, and the meter is still running.

So we almost traded:

Mikal
Cam
4 picks

For:

Butler
Kuminga
2 picks?

Or

Wiggins
Kuminga
Picks?

Kind of seems like a lateral there, I'd be in favor at this point than watching KD suck the life out of this team.

Everyone keeps saying Houston. IDK if the players traded would be as good, but the guess on the Houston trades is 4 picks. However, with the Houston trade, some of the insiders says KD doesn't fit their timeline, and guess that wouldn't really happen. I think all these insider rumors are just guesses at this point.

KD is going to get traded IMO in the offseason. However, it's going to have to be at least a 3 team trade. KD isn't going to rebuild and he isn't going to a bottom feeder. Which means it likely has to be a 3 team trade so get the assets back the Suns want.

Booker is the guy to send to Houston to get our picks back. Then sent KD somewhere else for even more picks/young talent.

But before any of that, JJ needs to be fired and a good young GM needs to be brought in to rebuild the team.

And they will not find a player near his level. Well they have a shot a lottery shot

What's his level? He never won anything in Brooklyn and has never been the man to push a team to a title.

He's a 2 or 3 time All-Star that was part of 1 playoff series win in Brooklyn. He signed as a free agent. Brooklyn will always be a FA destination. They turned $40 million in cap space into damn near a dozen 1st round picks. That's great value.

It takes time to judge how the picks play out. Durant spent 3 1/2 years in Brooklyn. He has 1 playoff series wins, 2 appearances, and a couple of All-Star appearances. That's not a high bar for someone to clear. Plus it's not just about 1 guy, they turned 1 guy into enough assets to compose an entire roster. All it would take is 1 of those 11 to win a playoff series to be on even ground with team accomplishments in Brooklyn compared to KD. If 2 are on the team that does then they will have doubled KD's impact there.

Given our porous defense, dearth of quality forwards, slow play and bad ball movement, it is pretty easy to say that, even without the boat load of picks, we'd be significantly better RIGHT NOW if we had Bridges and Johnson instead of KD.

Also, it would be nice to have the five 2nd round picks for Jae Crowder.
The Suns were never going to get that for Crowder. It was the worst kept secret that the situation was bad here. We didn't have the same leverage that the Nets had. There was no such situation with the Nets and they could have just kept him. Maybe they could have gotten a little more but not much.

We can debate the value of Jae Crowder, but his expiring contract could have helped the Suns find a player at a position of need.

I believe he wasn't traded sooner, as his contract might have been needed to consummate the trade for Kevin Durant.

.
Should’ve made nice with Crowder and used Dario’s salary as the filler while keeping Cam but Ishbia gave up the house.

Talks had progressed and stalled, and the Suns appeared to be pivoting toward a three-way deal that might've landed them Atlanta's John Collins sometime Thursday morning, sources said. On the direction of his new owner, Mat Ishbia, general manager James Jones texted Nets GM Sean Marks sometime after 11 p.m. ET -- and it wouldn't be long until Ishbia and Nets owner Joe Tsai had cobbled together the final elements of the blockbuster trade, sources said.

The Suns had been talking with Detroit about the possibility of acquiring Collins in a three-way deal with Atlanta, but Ishbia wouldn't call it a night without making one more run at Durant.

Once the Suns were willing to move Dario Saric's contract out of the deal -- and spare themselves surrendering second-round picks to account for his salary -- the teams were on the cusp of an agreement, sources said.

There were so many trades the Suns could have made, either then or that summer, that would have improved the team without depleting the team's young talent and future assets.

Suns have stupidly lowered several players value by holding on to them too long.

Crowder.
Ayton.
Nurk.

Who is POing these guys off?

Oh and now we are probably doing this to KD as we speak. Why take offers and ask his permission?

You either say he's off the table
or
Say hes available with or without his consent.

That's a totally different subject. Bottom line is teams know when another team is not in a great position. For example, according to Gambo, aside from the Golden State offer, most teams were inquiring about getting Durant on a "discount" because they thought the Suns would be desperate to move him. Teams pay attention to the situation and the Suns and Nets were not in the same position.

I agree though, I wish they had leveraged Crowder to get something back they really need.

It's possible ownership PO'd players then and now for different reasons but the constant theme is James Jones involvement. He's been a key figure under both owners. He was initially hired to help with player relations but we've seen more trouble with him than before he was here.
