Kevin Kolb-QB- Eagles Sep. 22 - 12:47 pm et

At his Tuesday press conference, Eagles coach Andy Reid refused to rule out a Kevin Kolb trade prior to the October NFL trade deadline.
Reid reemphasized that Kolb has "a bright future," but the Eagles are perhaps the most aggressive team in the league, having become even more so since GM Howie Roseman took over this offseason. We have to believe they'll listen to any trade proposals. The Browns were reported to have strong interest in Kolb during draft weekend, and there is plenty of quarterback uncertainty throughout the league. The Eagles will definitely get offers.

The Eagles originally wanted two #2's and a #4 for him. They must be drinking coolaid. So far this kid has proven nothing. I think they will end up keeping him as not one was interested at that price. I sure would not be.

I had heard that they loved Kolb inside the Eagles organization. Of course, maybe they were also tired of McNabb. But trading him now makes cutting Leinart this preseason look like a Supreme Court deliberation.

It also leaves the Eagles with Vick and their rookie 3rd stringer from Northwestern. I guess they could always sign Garcia again.

Leinart is not even #2 I read the other day. He want even get to carry the clipboard. I predict in a few years he will be out of football and into daytime soap operas.

I never thought he was much more than a system

Why is it practically guaranteed that - when anyone (good or bad) is shows up on the trade or FA market - there's knee-jerk fan sentiment to pick him up or trade for him?

Some things never die.....something like the argument --Who was better Willie Mays or Mickey Mantle???

..........although a lot of those who ventured into that have passed away.

Mantle by the way.

Give me a break. If he's not the number 2 in a few weeks, then the leinart detractors can crow. But give the guy some time to learn the system (without the benefit of an offseason or training camp).

I predict he'll have a decent career as a journeyman backup and sometime starter.

That might be a decent career to you. But considering all the hype, being a top 10 pick and him being the "most NFL ready QB coming out of college in the last decade" comments that we kept hearing. I would say that is a colossal flop of a career all things considered.

A career isn't defined by draft position--value for the team that drafted him is. He was a colossal flop for the Cardinals. If he ends up being a #2 for Houston, he's a tremendous value.

A decent career is a decent career no matter how you got there, IMO.

Sorry, but if Leinart becomes a career journeyman, then he is a tremendous, stupendous, incredible FLOP.

Cleveland and Buffalo have been the most active pursuants.

No surprise there. Buffalo desperately needs a QB. Am still surprised they claimed no interest in Leinart.

I'm with Pariah. It's not like he got bounced from the league or anything. And not all the experts and coaches were even sold on him being a great NFL QB (part of the reason he fell so far in the draft). If making millions of dollars while doing something I love, even if I don't do it as well as people hope/expect is being a flop, then sign me up. :)

Regardless, this thread is about Kolb. I am really kind of surprised by this turn of events. The Eagles went out and basically said that he was their guy after they got rid of McNabb. What changed? I understand the kid got hurt and Vick came in and played well, but are they really hitching their wagon (long term) to Michael Vick? That would surprise me.

I'm not sold on Kolb. I would rather wait and try to pick up a QB in the draft next year than trade for him, especially if the Eagles want a ton in return.

...for the Cardinals.

For the fans and the rest of the league, he may be disappointing based on his college career, but unless he somehow manages to inflate his contract somehow and then disappoints again, he just is what he is.

Crazy theory time. Who says he wont be here next year? There has to be a reason why he hasn't signed an extension yet with the Redskins right? Especially with the deep pockets of Snyder who isn't afraid to overpay. Could McNabb be asking for something crazy or not asking for anything at all in order to be a FA this coming offseason because he has a place he wants to go in mind? Doesn't help much this year though.

I have been saying this for weeks and no one buys it. Its awfully fishy he hasn't gotten locked up in Washington yet.

Wow. If they're going to trade Kolb, they better damn well lock up Vick for the long term. Otherwise, they could be screwed next year with no QB.

I don't understand the impatience with Kolb. He's played one half of football and they're already going to trade him? Isn't he the reason they got rid of McNabb?

Doesn't make sense to me...

What has Kolb done on the field in the NFL to get all this attention? For what I have read the Eagles are asking it would be insanity to trade for an unproven QB. Something like 2 second round picks and a 4th round pick.

Might as well just start playing Max Hall if we were to look at Kolb.

You are right. First we need to give Anderson at lest 4 games to see if he really is a failure.
We are 1-1 which is ok at this point. Not yet time to panic.

Career journeymen make about $1 mill a year. If you call that a failed career, than I guess all of us on these boards are far more tremendous, stupendous, flops at life than he is. Most players are out of the league within 5 years. Having a long career as a backup means you do have talent. If he was drafted in the 7th round, you'd say he was a success having the exact same career. Sorry but that line of thinking just doesn't work. A career is defined in hindsight by performance, not hype and expectations. So while people will be calling him a flop, 15 years from now he'll be remembered as a player that lasted in the league. Something most college players never manage to do.

May have to do with the fact that he's been injured every year for the past what, 10 years or something? If I'm Snyder I don't lock up a guy long term who can't stay healthy.
