Seriously, will this guy ever be healthy enough to stick in the NFL?

Cardinals | Early Doucet still rehabbing from offseason surgery
Thu, 05 May 2011 11:54:24 -0700

Arizona Cardinals WR Early Doucet (hernia) is still dealing with offseason sports hernia surgery and is not attending WR Larry Fitzgerald's workouts. Doucet is making progress and does not want to try to do too much too soon.

It is still early. I mean it is still Early Doucet, so this should not be a shock.

Andre Roberts is pretty much the same type of player. Plus Doucet was tendered which means nothing right now, and is completely taken off the table come June 3rd.

Let him roll out of here as far as I am concerned.

What's Lott got to do with Doucett right now? The players can't even talk to the coaches.

He is referring to the fact that many players dont stay healthy during the season. Which is when Doucett was hurt.

Lott hasn't made much of an impact with players like Bean, Early, Deuce... He has had more than just this off-season to get these people "strength/conditioned".

Deuce isn't fair. He wasn't under contract last offseason and so wasn't working out. You can't lay that at Lott's doorstep.

Lott's overrated because of his personality, but he's not better or worse than most of the other Strength and Conditioning coaches around the NFL. He got Kurt Warner into the best shape of his life when he was here--totally remade his body, essentially. He managed to keep Bertrand Berry playing at a high level after Berry's body seemed to be breaking down.

I meant to put in "too a lesser extent" on Deuce. Yes, on the personality thing. Woweee, he got self-starters like Warner and Berry in shape. :)

Early is going to be a heck of a player...Just wait and see...

The QB's we had just made everyone more injury prone. All he needs is somebody that can throw the football without dangerous situations every second catch.

He has all the tools and skills to be a very good in NFL. When he develops the chemistry and gets into a rythm with the QB, he is going to surprise alot fans.

....if he can get on the field.

So far, he plays on average 9 games per season. A little more than half.

I agree he has the skills to be a good receiver; however, like many other players in the history of the NFL, you cannot be productive if you can't even play. And so far, he has proven to be made of glass.

Early will be a career journeyman WR who plays OK when healthy but that is few and far between.

Its too bad that he has become the Kenny King of the offense. He is a very good WR when healthy and i will always be thankful for his peformance in the playoff game vs. GB.

Some players miss the entire season's sometimes, it's 16 games. They come back and stay healthy and they never get the critics them they are made of glass. If you say he missed 7 games per year, that equals 21 games so far, thus one season and a third of play. It does not mean anything in the big picture, if he has more luck and stays on the field more.

Warner has only had few years where he was healthy as well, if you look it in that way he is also made of glass, it was a miracle then, that he could stay healthy in his last years, despite being the most hit player in entire NFL...He is one of the toughest guys in NFL IMO, and no, he was not made of glass, despite missing alot of time due to injuries.

Things just fold out that way sometimes, it's also luck and chance, it's not that he is made of glass. He is one of the toughest guys you can come around.

He has shown in one of the greatest games, that he has the capabilities to be a great receiver. GB game in particular.

He is a tough guy, he will come back and find a way to make some success. He is way too good a player.

Part of being a "heck of a player" is being able to play hurt, and Early has yet to show that he can stay on the field with the natural bumps and bruises that professional football comes with. all the talent in the world doesn't do any good if you can't keep it on the field.

But Doucet doesnt play hurt. So either he is not tough or the many injuries he's suffered have been significant enough to keep him from playing. And none of which fall into his favor.

Whether it be luck or chance, he's not on the field enough to be reliable and a significant contributor to the team. And for him to reverse the trend starts with being on the field.

I really like him but it would be a lot easier if he could play more games. He needs to produce this year or that label (glass) could be the end of him. He does good when he is in there (healthy).
