Edgerrin James Already Out Of Arizona

February 5th, 2009 · No Comments

According to the Arizona Republic’s Dan Bickley, Edgerrin James is “already gone” from the Cardinals. Edge reportedly did not return to Phoenix with the Cardinals after the Super Bowl. James’ release, which cannot become official yet, will save Arizona $5 million under the salary cap, increasing the team’s spending limit to roughly $47 million. It also creates a need at tailback. J.J. Arrington is a free agent and the Cardinals will have to find a complement for Timmy Hightower.

I don't see it on azcentral, so maybe this is jumping the gun? Though I believe it is inevitable, and a good thing.

I've been e-mailing with Urban and I asked him what he thought about Edge possibly coming back and/or re-structuring and he said "no chance".

Thank you Edge, for producing the same YPC avg as most the scrubs before you in Az.

And you did it for only 300 percent more $$ than they got.

Yes, I'm stirring the pot a little here, I know our failed running game comes down to a lot more factors i.e The O-line our play calling etc..

But the above still holds true.

^ Your and absolute IDIOT!!! (preparing for timeout but it had to be said sorry). Anyone who doesn't appreciate making the Super Bowl and Edges' HUGE contribution to that is an absolute moron. Edge is the best RB this organization has seen since its arrival in Az yet we still have so called fans that can't see this or credit what this guy did for this organization! God help this team if guys like SoCal ran them!

At the same time I think we'll be ok with Arrington and Hightower getting the bulk of the carries.

With that said thanks for a great few years here and being a standup guy! I'm going to miss your veteran leadership most of all! You did a pretty good job of controling your emotions even though you were being seldom used this season. Hopefully things will work out for you somewhere else.

Edge produced the best YPC in his time with the Cardinals this last season, at 3.9.

I thought he was done after the 3.4 in 2006, to be honest. The 3.8 and 3.9 he's had the last two years weren't good, but they weren't awful. In retrospect, I'd say the 2006 numbers were about the offensive line far more than James.

All that said, I think it's more than ok for the Cards to move on. They're going to miss him because he's still a useful player, but at that salary? They're better off moving on.

It's kinda sad that his signature play in the Super Bowl was the chop block, because one of the things they're really going to miss is his blocking. I really didn't think that play was his fault. The lineman who was "engaged" (read: completely failing to block) the guy should have been pulling off to handle the blitzer up the middle. Not Edge's fault he was too busy being beaten by the first guy to notice the second.

Arrington had 6.0 yards per carry in very limited carries. That may be due to the situation when we had him running tho.

Eh Nash (If you read this when you unbanned)
What is it about his oh so average numbers here that you are so in love with?? The fact that he obviously hit another gear that was the result of the huge chip on his shoulder, and the fact that he was auditioning for his next team.

He looked good towards the end of the year, but only because of the above reasons IMO.

Edge was overall a good person to have here, and I'm sorry to see him go. But I'm not into re-writing history. Let's face it, he played better after he road the bench for a while. Even if the line was better later, you can see a renewed energy in his running when you compare game tapes. He needs to realize that nobody is going to bring him in as the singular feature back anymore. Too bad he can't see past his pride, but he'll be somewhere else next year and wind up sharing time with a younger stud. But at least he had the class to be a good mentor to the other guys.

Do you think the Cardinals will just release him? Will they try and do a trade?

I think we release him, and I think he will split time elsewhere, but not many teams run as little as we do. Wherever he goes he will get more touches than he got here, and if he does well enough reestablish himself.. can't blame him for leaving.

That's why I'm not high on Edge, anyone who was watching, could instantly see him running with more fire after the benching.

I'm sorry Edge, was the huge chunk of cash not motivation enough for you to give your all? Will your next coach have to piss you off and put a chip on your shoulder to see your true potential as well? :mulli:

Sigh...why even say it if you knew there were reprecussions.

Chris, I would have done it for the constant use of 'your' when it should be 'you're', not that my command of English is all that great, but that one just drives me crazy.

If you're going to call me an idiot, then don't say 'your an idiot'....lmao

Thanks Edge. You helped take us from a joke to the Super Bowl. You also helped save a season and turn it into the best football year of my life.

Edge has the top two season rushing totals in Arizona Cards history and came up big in our run to the Super Bowl in our third.

That's a hell of a lot better than a lot of free agents we've signed.
