Make all the jokes you want, but Elvis was very instrumental in shaping music in the U.S.

My parents were more Elvis fans than Beatles fans, which is funny since they were only 19 in 1971. In any case, my siblings and I grew up with Elvis, not the Beatles, on the record player. I suppose this is why, at age 5, I remember Elvis dying, but, at age 9, I do not remember John Lennon being killed.

My favorite Elvis song? Suspicious Minds!

Were caught in a trap
I cant walk out
Because I love you too much baby

Why cant you see
What youre doing to me
When you dont believe a word I say?

We cant go on together
With suspicious minds
And we cant build our dreams
On suspicious minds

So, if an old friend I know
Drops by to say hello
Would I still see suspicion in your eyes?

Here we go again
Asking where Ive been
You cant see these tears are real
Im crying

We cant go on together
With suspicious minds
And be cant build our dreams
On suspicious minds

Oh let our love survive
Or dry the tears from your eyes
Lets dont let a good thing die

When honey, you know
Ive never lied to you
Mmm yeah, yeah

And, if I ever get married, I will dance with my father to "The Wonder of You"

When no-one else can understand me
When everything I do is wrong
You give me hope and consolation
You give me strength to carry on

And you're always there to lend a hand
In everything I do
That's the wonder
The wonder of you

And when you smile the world is brighter
You touch my hand and I'm a king
Your kiss to me is worth a fortune
Your love for me is everything

I'll guess I'll never know the reason why
You love me like you do
That's the wonder
The wonder of you

Great singer and songwriter. Wish he would have stuck to those, rather than acting as well.

BOOO!!!!!

The Beatles are the best...and they didn't steal all their music from black people.

With that said, I DO love the song Suspicious Minds however...fantastic song.

Hey, it's a BIG deal for me to give any props to Elvis. But Suspicious Minds totally rocks...in fact thanks to you it's now in my head and I have to go download it.

MESA! :thud:
Definitely love Elvis WAY more than Beatles. My faves are In The Ghetto, Kentucky Rain, Suspicious Minds, Can't Help Falling In Love...but I love all Elvis music. I do believe he's dead, though. Not one of those freaky "Elvis Lives" types.

Kentucky Rain rocks!!!

Here is my best Elvis story. Was at a super crowded bar at the Jersey Shore one summer. The DJ played Suspicious Minds. My sis and I looked at each other like "um, okay." Strangely enough everyone in the bar started jamming and singing. It was unreal.

African Americans invent music, grow it, then abandon it once it starts to become wildly popular. Everybody steals soul riffs...it's just what you do. Kick the poor man.

For what it's worth....I like both Elvis and the Beatles. I appreciate a very vast array of music. All but country.

He inspired bands like Ramones, Nirvana, Sex Pistols, maybe you've heard of some of them.

Sorry, I should have dropped one of these: :sarcasm:

I'm just much more of a movie person, and I've seen him in a lot of small parts lately.

Including his appearance on Deep Space 9.
