The people of Earth are desperate to escape the crime and poverty that is now rampant throughout the land. The only man with the chance to bring equality to these worlds is Max (Matt Damon), an ordinary guy in desperate need to get to Elysium. With his life hanging in the balance, he reluctantly takes on a dangerous mission – one that pits him against Elysium's Secretary Delacourt (Jodie Foster) and her hard-line forces – but if he succeeds, he could save not only his own life, but millions of people on Earth as well.

yup. this is kinda my list "must-see" of the summer.

I assume you mean you're "last" must-see of the summer.

I have one more: The World's End
Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost (along with Martin Freeman)? Yes, please.

yeah...I would have put it up there as well, but I thought Hot Fuzz was just lukewarm and really didn't like Scott Pilgrim...and I've heard mixed stuff about End.

I was lukewarm on Scott Pilgrim myself, but I loved Shaun and really liked Hot Fuzz. Those guys together do pretty good work.

Last chance to unseat Star Trek as the best blockbuster of the summer, I think. I was seemingly the only one that didn't care much for Blomkamp's District 9, but the trailers have me excited for this one. Damon seems to know how to pick his projects well which is a good sign.

I wonder if they added the suit cause Damon is so fat now.

Not the only one. I have no interest in this movie because of District 9. If some anti-9ers start loving this movie, maybe I'll give it a chance.

District 9 sucks. Clearly not the only one.

I liked District 9 but did not care for this movie. First 45 minutes are solid, then it devolves into a frenetic mess.

I really liked this movie. Of all of the summer movies, this is neck and neck with Iron Man 2 for me.

In a van...down by the river.
I liked D9 alot,it was a refreshing sci-fi/socially thematic story that also had tremendous special effects IMO.

Having said that,my expectations were quite high for Elysium.
I saw it on IMax last night. I liked it but i didn't love it. About halfway through i thought it got away from some of the more interesting themes and social commentary that the premise was based on...and cleverly turned into an action film. A very good action film, but i wanted more depth.

Damon and Foster were solid, and there were other supporting roles that were top notch...except for Alice Braga(who i remember from I Am Legend). She was the same character here...i mean exactly. Sharlto Copley, who annoyed so many in D9(as an annoying character....go figure), was virtually unrecognizable in this role(it took me awhile to work it out) ...but wow was he good.

Incredible visually and sonically. I'm sure the IMax experience helped, but very well done nonetheless. A couple plot holes i wont go into now but i'm not one who lets plot holes ruin a solid film for me anyway. Its splitting hairs most of the time.

Film geek friend saw it and reported back: "Somewhere, Blomkampt is still trying to direct more camera motion for this movie. Wish I had taken some Dramamine."
