Obviously this topic will become an obsession if not a full-time profession both in the Valley and among national media people.

I thought I'd try to give it a shot at sorting out what we might want to look for this evening:

- I'm guessing that there will be an overemphasis on boxcar numbers (i.e. did we win or lose? How many TD passes did he throw? What about his other stats)? But let's not forget this is our first preseason game - and all the parts of the overall offensive machine might not quite be in total synch, with the result that it could impair or cloud Leinart's performance. So while overall production (i.e. scoring TD's/winning games) becomes increasingly important as preseason moves along, I'd be more interested in how good Matt is at taking advantage of various game-situations:

- Is he throwing a nice ball?

- Is he making good reads and picking up open receivers quickly?

- Is his decision-making not too slow, not hurried - but "just right."

- Is he hitting open receivers?

- Is he hitting them in the right place?

- Does he look smooth dropping back from under center?

- Does his ball-handling look slick? Or does it seem like more of an adventure?

- Ditto screen pass execution - Smooth? Or an adventure?

- How's his "sixth sense" vis a vis "feeling the pass rush?"

- Does he look comfortable or jittery moving out of the pocket?

- How productive is he in the Red Zone?

- Is he throwing well (accurately/with right amount of touch or mustard) on the run?

- When there are opportunities to make plays, is he capitalizing on them.

- Is he doing all of this consistently?

Other than that...nothing.

Every part of his game tonight will be disected by every fan/interested media-type. This is put up or shut up time for him (this season not PRE season) and I just hope he makes it because the Cards have been searching for a QB of the future forever and it'd be nice if he was already on the roster.

This sucks, I feel bad for Matt tonight. If you know anything about Whisenhunt's Cardinals it's that they do not game plan at all for the preseason and go strictly vanilla. Warner didn't look good in the preseason for us and he is a HOF QB. The media (and this board---:coughShanecough:) will be destroying him tonight, but as long as he isn't downright putrid I will be satisfied.

I just want to see leadership and no defeated look in his eyes/body language... I want to see resilance and good reads...

My thoughts about tonight's game: can we score and can our defense stuff the run. When it comes to Leinart, if he makes a mistake can he shrug it off and make a play next time around.

Honestly, I think that people on this board are going to care. I don't think anyone in the national media could really care. If Matt throws 5 TDs, it's not going to lead SportsCenter, but it won't lead SportsCenter if he throws 5 INTs, either.

I want to see the Oline protect him well enough so I can have some idea what he's got

About the ONLY thing that I know about tonight's game is-----I sure as hell don't have to evaluate Matt Leinart's performance. Virtually everyone else will be busy doing that to ad-nauseum, so I can just sit back and watch some football.

I have faith that the coaches will be fairly objective with their evaluation of him and the other QB's tonight. THey may be the only ones who do so, because almost everyone else, (it seems), has some sort of pre-conceived idea of how he should be playing. I look for the media scrutiny of him to be merciless-----right along with many of the Cardinal's fans. Somehow, I just hope he can have some fun and play some football out there this evening.

I think you are 100% correct. I can see stats of 4 for 7 32 yards and 1 almost pick. That will be enough to send many here over the edge.

I'll be interested in seeing how long Leinart is in the game. Last year in the opener Warner played one full drive and Leinart came in halfway through the second drive and ran two more after that. One with only 38 seconds left in the half that led to a 3 play drive for a FG. BSP and Palko played the entire second half against the Steelers.

If you know anything about Whisenhunt's Cardinals it's that they do not game plan at all for the preseason and go strictly vanilla.

No kidding. Last season the Cards scored 6,10,and 0 in games 1,2,and 4. They had 37 vs Green Bay but 20 of that came in the 4thQ against Green Bay's spares.

BTW: Leinart was 24/38/346 with 3 TDs in that GB game. Imagine if Anderson does that.

The local media outlets seem to be judging him based on if he can score today. To put this in perspective, here are some other QB numbers from their 1st preseason game this year:

D. Brees 9/13, 55 yards, no touchdown
T. Brady 5/8, 67 yards, no touchdown
T. Romo 4/7, 52 yards, no touchdown (sacked 3 times!)
M. Vick 11/1,7 119 yards, 1 int, no touchdown
K. Kolb 6/11, 95 yards, no touchdown
M. Ryan 3/6, 34 yards, no touchdown

The point I'm trying to make is it will be great if he gets a touchdown, but if he doesn't it's not the end of the world. I'd like to see us move the ball as a unit, and hopefully no picks.

I'm not going to be concerned about Matt's performance tonight. I Just hope he can show that hs is in charge. His coming out will be in pre season game 3 IMO.

THe only thing I don't want to see is a lost player from injury during this meaningless game. I do want to see the new guys like Williams and Wsahigton play. Going to be looking at our new phenom WR undrafted kid.

Yep.

But I also look for Whis to come out throwing & let Leinart get a feel for the game & try to get some confidence.

I am a big Matt fan so am biased. I think he will be fine if given the time to produce. I keep coming back to the Bear game when the whole team went into prevent mode at halftime. I thought he played decent in the Tenn game last year.

With Beanie, Hightower Fitz and Breston I think he will do fine. Also hope the line can protect.

Matt played well tonight...!!! His OL SUCKED...!!! Matt made his reads well and was 6-7 in passing. No INT'S. Duce needs loose wgt. Keith sucks. Put Bridges in Keiths Place Duce in for Wells. Also Beannie need to start, bring in HT for passing situations.

You missed the question:

Is he walking on water yet?

And also:

Can I poke my finger through his crucified hand-holes?

And also...

you get the point.
