I'm NOT into country very much, but I'd go with Brooks & Dunn, 'My Maria'. Their harmonies were just TIGHT!

Too many to choose from. Here's three relatively obscure covers that I like.

Judas Priest does a great version of "Diamonds and Rust" by Joan Baez on their Unleashed in the East album.

Iron Maiden did justice to Tull's "Cross-Eyed Mary" on an import compilation that I picked up many moons ago.

In kind of a funny vein, Marshall Crenshaw released a live album called My Truck is My Home a while back that includes a cover he used to do a lot (not so much anymore), "Knowing Me, Knowing You" by ABBA. It makes a stupid song sound really good! LOL!

What?
Good calls by everyone! Cardinal Bob, Judas did a pretty kicken remake of "Johnny B. Goode" too.

Lady Madonna by the Beatles - remake of Fats Domino original. WFMU used to play them back to back.

Other than that - all remakes suck.

I didn't know that. I'll have to check that out.

That Metallica did it, or that it was originally Queen?

It's on Queen's 'Sheer Heart Attack' album.

What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong, originally done by Jerry Vale.

...and I will disagree with anyone that says any other version of Johnny B. Goode is better than Chuck Berry's.
