Wondering if a trade involving Kolb is in the works. It would not surprise me one bit if he is.

Trading Kolb would be the best thing for Skelton's confidence IMHO...then grab Kafka to be #3 to comete with Lindley

Trai Essex (OL) cut by Steelers. Betting he'll be here in 4 hours, like all the other Pittsburgh cast-offs.

I hope our roster isn't that bad where the Cards are counting on other teams cuts to be contributors. If a guy isn't good enough to make a roster, for any team, then I doubt he'll have any effect on another teams roster.

It's not like some team is hoping the Cards cut Mike Adams so they can pick him up to complete their team. Guys getting cut are interchangeable.

It accelerates the bonus.

This was designed as a 2-year experiment at $21M

Yes and no.

We may have a CB to trade that fits a slot as a top 3 or 4 on some other team.

I doubt it, I can't see any of our CBs be slotted any higher on another NFL team than they are here...honestly, aside from Peterson, it isn't like we have a lot of quality...Gay hasn't looked good in the preseason and was an average player at best in Pittsburgh, Toler obviously isn't 100% yet and honestly who knows if/when that will happen, Jefferson was pretty bad last year and Adams is most valuable on ST...Fleming is the only one left that may have value and we just drafted him and I think he has too much promise to trade.

The guys I see having the most value to other teams are the WRs-Roberts and Doucet. Not sure what we could get for either one though.

Not necessarily. For instance I know a Major League baseball scout who looks for good minor league players stuck behind star players at the Major League level that they can pick up. For instance a guy playing catcher in the St.Louis Cardinals organization. No way he's going to beat out Molina.

Same thing with NFL teams. Are there some players that can play in the NFL that are simply victims of numbers at a position. There has to be a few of those.

That works well until Molina gets run over by James, I mean, Josh Harrison.

Saw enough really bad corner play this pre-season to believe that some team may have an interest and prefer not to risk the waiver wire. We'll see. Agree on the wideouts.

OK how about being a shortstop behind Cal Ripken from May 30, 1982 to September 20, 1998?

:D

It's funny how people seem to assume that a certain player (say, Kolb today) would be upset because they got the backup job.

That can't be true in all cases. You know there are guys out there who would love that job. Backing up Cal Ripken or Peyton Manning would be a pretty sweet way to make a living. LOL.

Funny that you bring that up Duck. My best bud that I played sports with forevers son was the #1 pick of the Cards this year and he plays catcher. :D Steve Bean, Rockwall HS...keeps your eyes open in about 5 yrs. The kids got the best arm from that position I've ever seen & is a stick to.

Like was mentioned before, I don't agree. There's some guys out there that didn't fit a particular team's scheme, didn't produce enough for their large cap hit, or were victims of a logjam at a position.

My example is Jared Gaither from last year. Mid-season, he came in and really helped out at left tackle for the Chargers after being cut by the Chiefs. There's a lot more out there than you think.

Wow, Haggans. I guess the writing was on the wall when he was playing deep into the 3rd yesterday.

He wasnt axed over Brandon Williams. B Williams was waived/injured.

We only have 3 OLB's, and kept 11 DB's.

One of those DB's better not get comfortable, because they are about to get a rude awakening. No way we keep all 11 of them past this weekend.

Anyone see any surprise cuts on our end today? I don't really think so - but I wouldn't shed a tear if Heap were gone (don't think it will happen because he took less money this year) and wouldn't be floored a vet like Haggans or James Sanders went in favor of younger blood.

Well, sort of. Sad to see Haggans go!

Yeah, 3 OLB's sure isn't going to cut it!
