p.s. Curt Schilling = Brandon Lyon - who has yet to pitch for us - and Jose Cruz (plus cash). Am I forgetting someone?

Michael Goss is a throw-in suspect, not a prospect.WildBB said:Your both forgetting that the Schilling trade allowed us to sign Sexson. Now that didn't work out, true. But in his place they were able to sign Glaus for about the same $ they could've resigned Sexson for.
And we did get two high draft picks for Sea. signing Sexson.

I guess the question is whether the D-Backs would have been better with Curt Schilling last year and the most likely first and supplemental picks they would have gotten for him as opposed to the supplemental and 3rd round pick tey got from Seattle.
I'm missing something. Who is "they"?coyoteshockeyfan said:Yeah, thats great and all...except for the fact that the Diamondbacks could NOT, absolutely NOT keep Schilling under any normal circumstances. Due to JC's mandate, keeping him for a year and getting picks was certainly out of the question. They got fleeced in the deal, but thats what happens when you are forced to dump no matter what and only a few teams are able trade for a guy.

I thought we were talking about what the D-Backs did and could have done. JC set the mandates, he was the D-Backs, so I fail to understand how the D-Backs are not responsible for his decisions. The forcing to dump came from the D-Backs.
That's not what happened with the A's were forced to trade Tim Hudson or Mark Mulder. Likewise with the RJ trade of this past summer. DBacks got screwed in the Schilling deal because Joe Jr. lacked the creative capacity to involve other teams in the deal thus accepting the best the Sox could offer instead of what he wanted.coyoteshockeyfan said:They got fleeced in the deal, but thats what happens when you are forced to dump no matter what and only a few teams are able trade for a guy.
They had the cash to keep him. They spent it on Richie Sexson. Plus, the gave Gonzo a big contract, handed Dessens $3 mil for no reason, etc. etc.coyoteshockeyfan said:They meaning the management. And you cant blame JC for making management get rid of Schilling if the team didnt have the cash to keep him. Keeping him was not an option. Period. Dot. End of story.
