Now THAT was awesome!
Ugh!...haha.
Well I read that Len would benefit from taking the one year deal and exploring FA next season.
Len might well benefit from taking the one year deal but there is not any guarantee his value will increase next off season. Also free agency dollars will be tighter. Perhaps if he can sign a reasonable multi-year contract like Williams with player options, this might serve him best.
Also I suppose, the Suns might be able to withdraw the qualifying offer.
Should this happen, the Suns want to know if you can play a season for a paltry $4.2 million dollars.
I don't see us rescinding his qualifying offer and I think McD would like to keep him so long as it's a reasonable contract. McD's latest comments about waiting to hear from Alex and his agent sound more like they have an offer out to him and are waiting to hear back from them. I think he'll get a deal similar to Big Sauce but just a little larger, like 3 years/$20 million total, Williams' deal was 3 years/$17 million. I think the holdup isn't so much the payment as it is the years and potential opt-outs. I could see his agent trying to get him a deal that is 2-3 more than the qualifying offer next year and gives him the ability to opt out also. I wouldn't do that deal if I was the Suns though. The Suns should offer him a deal equal to Williams packed with incentives, giving him the chance to earn another $2-3 million a year if he hits them. That's a gamble but one that should work for the Suns either way. Either he produces and gets paid for it or he doesn't and we're not out any extra money. I'm not sure how incentives work against the cap but we're under far enough it shouldn't matter.
I think Len might have gotten an offer if he wasn't restricted. He wouldn't have gotten paid like Centers did last year but he probably would have gotten a deal similar to Dwayne Dedmon, who signed with Atlanta for 2 years and $14 million total. Anymore than that would be a big overpayment. No team would risk setting up a front or back loaded poison pill type of deal for him either, he's not worth it.
