Because he is a solid QB.He is young (25) and he has played well before his injury. He is a hard working not flashy solid QB who is not a turnover machine and he has good enough arm to make the throws.Plus he is a high character kid with a great work ethic.I watched at Louisville and watched as many Viking games as i could. He is just a solid good QB.He is not going to be a gunslinger type QB who forces passes. He will take what`s given and work down the field.
Too many people think flashy gaudy stats make a good QB but the wins and losses mean the most.
Bridgewater is my choice. Then bring back Gabbert.Draft a QBOF and sign another UDFA QB to develop also.

While not a free agent QB, Ian Rapoport on NFL Network just said that the Chiefs will entertain trade offers for Alex Smith this offseason.

well...he was actually a turnover machine in Minne... but his history shows it isnt inherent...he can be coached out of it.
28 TD's and 21 INT's in his two years starting in Minne..

12 his first year, 9 his second year...so it aint a huge issue just not real favorable compared to his TD's.
but his 65% completions is hard to argue with

Yes, but he went on to say that he thinks the Chiefs might be able to get as much or more than the 2 2nd rounders they gave up to get him. Good luck with that. Imo, no more QB trades with Andy Reid.

True. At least at this point though Alex Smith is Alex Smith.

But this also could allow another one of the rookies to drop to us in the 1st round, or even 2nd-3rd.

Why hasn't anyone brought up Tyrod Taylor? He is the main reason BUF landed in the playoffs for the first time in 17 years. If he is let go, he should be atop the list IMO. Taylor and Mayfield would be my hope for QB situation in 2018.

just read an article stating they are open to dealing him but will not seak out trade partners..

hell no,.. not with a 10 foot pole...

this is Reid trying to establish a bidding war in a year when so many teams have doubts at QB..

in all honesty,... the smartest move would be for cleveland to deal for him... at 33 he still has some years and they can have him mentor Kizer... leaves them free to draft RB and Oline with their picks.

In a QB starved league you don't think Alex Smith who is a proven starter is worth that?

we might not be able to afford Taylor... not if we want to get him somebody to throw to.
he wont likely get a top flight deal but will still be close to $20mil a year

Alex Smith heading into his 15th year (who has only one year left on his contract and is a year away from being a UFA)---for 2 2nd round picks? I wouldn't make that deal, but that just may be me.

Taylor goes thru stretches where he doesn't look like an NFL QB. Then he'll have a great game that probably make his numbers look more consistent than they are. Then you look at third down offense and Buffalo has been top-5 in conversion rate the last 3 years. Idk what to make of him. They weren't bad in red zone offense either.

What do you think he's worth? I believe he is in the top 5 stat wise this year. Haven't looked it up.

I just wouldn't trade with Andy Reid anymore. Here it is the day of their playoff game versus the Titans and the Chiefs are saying they would be open to trading Smith. This is classic Andy Reid posturing (he's probably banking on Smith playing well today to boost up his trade value)---and is one of the main reasons why he can't get out of the first or second round of the playoffs every year with the Chiefs. If Smith is Top 5 this year and he has one year left on his contract, why put him on the training block? Who would have a better chance of taking the Chiefs far into the playoffs next year, Smith or Mahomes? Mahomes is a roll of the dice at this point and every young QB is bound to go through growing pains.

He really doesn’t have any weapons. He’s not the best, but his weapons are really just McCoy, Clay, &......yea.

I think Reid would be in a pretty good position to know the answer to that question. Maybe even better than you!
