Frye signs with the Magic (?)

My prayers were answered so quickly! Now they have to get serious about signing a PF... and the odds are good they'll sign someone who can rebound since there are few PFs who are below Frye in that regard.

They can always fail his physical if they wanted to. The Raiders did that very thing this last free agent period in the NFL. It hurts their credibility significantly in the future though.

I was concerned the Suns would throw sizeable money at Channing Frye to keep him. This gives me a big sigh of relieve. IMO, he is not worth this type money. However, for his sake, I'm glad he was able to get. He was always a class player with the Suns.

It's not good, but for the Magic maybe not as bad as it would have been for the Suns. The Magic are very young and looking for leadership in the locker room. I don't know how good at that Frye is, but having a vet to help guide that young roster is essential. He's a good guy and no doubt will be a positive role model. The Suns have Dragic and Tucker (hopefully) who can play that role, they don't need to pay extra to get what Frye potentially can bring off the court.

That's the only instance I can think of.

Carlos Boozer screwed the Cavs and it was egregious. Cleveland had an option on Boozer for a low number. But they, in order to pay him more, made him an unrestricted free agent, with the verbal commitment that he would sign for the MLE.

Utah swooped in and offered a bigger number and he left.

Cleveland could have just kept him at the low number and there would have been nothing he could do.

When Frye was healthy, this team played well and won. When he was injured or playing injured this team lost. I believe Kieff can replace him, but he has been an important and undervalued (at least to fans) part of this team. Obviously other teams see the value or he would not have gotten this much interest.

I agree. The best part of Frye's decision to leave will be that he will no longer tie up the Center position.

You cannot evaluate Channing's presence as starting Power Forward without evaluating him as closing Center as well.

Now Miles Plumlee and Alex Len will have an opportunity to show if they can man the position.

If the Suns follow through and sign a starting Power Forward, it will indeed be addition by subtraction. Markieff is not the answer, either.

Yea..he chose to ignore Frye was one of the main component for Suns unexpected good season until he ran out of gas.
Definitely more money than any on this board expected..but if he returns fit and used properly, It will be good signing for the Magic.

I think locking up 32M over a 4 year period on Channing Frye is a mistake. I'm glad the Suns didn't make it. I think subtracting Frye's salary helps the Suns in this regard. I don't know if it is addition by subtraction, but I think McDonough made the right decision.

The word was that Channing was clear of the virus. He wasn't playing with a heart condition.

He is a very one-dimensional player. If his 3-point shot is falling, he spreads the floor on offense. If not, he is not even an average post player.

This is true. However, I think Frye is sort of a streak shooter and to erratic to count on. One night he has it, the next night he doesn't.

You can add up Channing's rebounds with an abacus and complain about his stats. Or you can join the modern world. Your choice.

We also both know that playing Frye as center is a mistake for the team and his stamina especially on the defensive end of the court. He is not great at rebounding but i personally think he gave his best trying to guard the other team's big man.
