Based on the fact that Williams is going to be the DC for Gibbs in Washington, I would think Gray would be the odds on favorite to go there.

Why would he go be a position coach and get paid less than be a coordinator here and get paid more? Or is this your theory becasue you think no one will ever want to coach under Green?

Gray

Gray was a fantastic DB in his playing days.

With that said.....being a great player doesn't automatically make you a great coach.

Can you say Mean Joe?

I knew you could.

I don't know buckeye....based on this alone he probably has more credentials than Joe greene in coaching:

prior to that spent the previous four seasons as an assistant with Gregg Williams at the Tennessee Titans, including the last two as defensive backs coach…helped Tennessee finish as the NFL's #1 ranked pass defense and total defense in 2000 and also guided two All-Pro starters at each position in the Titans secondary

Actually would love to have him.......would have to be an improvement over "let's play our CB's 10 yards away every play" Marmie.

Come on, that wasn't the coaches' fault! Remember, it was the CB's decision on how close to play to the WR! :puke:

I think Russ is right. We haven't seen more than the tip of the iceberg with the stuff we're going to hear about the previous staff.

First of all, I would refer you to Pinnacle's post.

He's been a protege of Williams. I would just expect him to give staying with him and going to Washington with Williams and Gibbs first consideration.

As to the money? What would you say we're talking about as far as difference in pay?

And finally NO! Although I am skeptical as to who he would indeed attract, that's not the reason I stated what I did.

....which brings me to a question....so do you think this would be the trend with Green's hirings?
Hiring a "newbie" at a top position like this, rather than someone who's been there and done that already?

Don't get me wrong, I really know very little about Gray himself, so I really don't have a strong opinion obout his abilities one way or the other.

I just find it ironic that now I'm seeing a lot of people seemingly "change their tune" all of a sudden.

Where's all this - no more inexperienced top coaches please? ??

Jerry is also rumored to be one of the leading candidates for the recently vacated DC job at Texas where he played in college.

Carl Reese, the defensive genius who thought it was a good idea to play his 240lb LB's head up on 300lb OLinemen, resigned this week.

jerry gray used to be my favorite ram (before the cards moved to the valley). but that aside, he was always considered an astute student of the game and his time with gregg williams has to have been beneficial. and he's been a d coordinator with a very good bills defense for three years. in addition, he played for a relatively radical defensive coordinator w/ the rams (can't remember his name right now - DOH!), but i'd be willing to bet he picked up some creative ideas about defense back then too. i'd give him a shot.

How does 3 years as a coordinator make him inexperienced?

I don't know anything about him but its not like he went from graduate assistant to NFL coach overnight.

What are you talking about? First off he's not "inexperienced." He's been the DC of the Bills for the last three years, the last of which they finished in the Top 5 in the NFL in defense. Second, moving from a defensive coordinator to a position coach (which he would have to take in Washington) is a demotion. You'd have to think he would be interested in staying at the coordinator level if his ultimate goal was to become a HC. Even if that is not his goal, coordinators are for the most part paid better than position coaches so he could also look for the money.
