Yeah it's Rodgers fault they didn't win a playoff game last year right? I mean he put up 45 points but because of the fumble in OT after the missed bomb he lost the game right?
Rodgers was 28-42 over 400 yards and 4 TD's(1 pick) in that loss, Green Bay's defense lost that game not Rodgers.
And no I don't think I should wait a few years Alex has started plenty of games as has Rodgers to be clear who's the better QB. Smith might get better than he is now but he's given no indication he'll ever be as good as Rodgers, and Rodgers is getting better still.
It's not even debatable, that pick set the franchise back years, had they taken Rodgers SF would have been much better on offense the last few years.
Stop kidding yourself. No "one pick" can set a franchise back "for years" like you said. Our franchise was already in shambles the day they announced the hiring of Mike Nolan.
Let me remind you something. If Michael Crabtree didn't fall to us at 11, I bet Josh Morgan would still be the #1 WR right now, and you want to blame Alex Smith for setting back this franchise? the same franchise that passed on Desean Jackson twice for a couple of busts?
Mind you, we had Brandon Lloyd, Johnnie Morton, Arnaz Battle, and Curtis Conway as "targets" for Alex Smith to work with. We also put him in front of a bunch of wussies (Kwame Harris, Jonas Jennings, etc...) and made him go out there and "wing" it.
Vernon Davis has turned out nicely but before that he was mainly used as a blocker--I bet Alex Smith came up with that genius idea, also. The best thing to ever happened to this franchise was Mike Nolan getting fired!
