EW.com ruined it too. Put up pre-written articles the moment the episode started to air on the East Coast. (Btw, HBOGO lets you watch it when it airs on the east coast...if that helps avoid spoilers)

my problem was I had gone to Coachella this weekend and was too exhausted to watch last night when i got home. I usually watch every sunday night so stuff like this isn't spoiled but i had no choice this time and it came back to bite me in the ass.

my question is was it the wine or the "pie". there was a big shot of the pie at one point...and it almost looked like it was moving. i couldn't figure that shot out.

I believe the shot was showing dead doves which were killed when he cut the cake with the sword.

That sucks. Of all the people who post on this site, I know you wanted to see him die more than anyone. I was actually looking forward to reading your reaction this morning and to know it was ruined for you just blows.

My response:

I have read the books, but this is one area where I think the TV show could deviate from them without upsetting too much of what comes after (whodunit). So my response is totally about my feelings on the TV show and not on the book version...

I agree with you totally on Olenna. Remember last season, she quizzed Sansa on how cruel Joffrey could be, so there would be her motive, marrying into the royal bloodline but killing him off before he could harm his new bride.

I don't agree about Sansa, though. She's been shown on TV as being too timid, too weak to take part in something like that. I don't believe she is guilty, nor do I believe Olenna would trust her with such an important task.

But it would be really sweet to see a flashback of her participation at some point, so that we could see a Stark finally getting proper revenge.

You might be right about Sansa and her touching the cup might be a misdirection. Although, I didn't see where Olenna even had the opportunity to touch Joffrey's cup.

For a show that doesn't really deal with flashbacks to advance the story, it will be interesting to see how they choose to reveal who did it...

Just FYI but I just looked at that scene again. Olenna was really really far away. There were 3 tables (Olenna the one on the left), middle table was Joffrey and the the table on the right is Sansa. I simply don't see how she could have possibly been anywhere near his cup or snuck up to it. However, as you stated maybe they do a flashback and how her sneaking up to the cup or something.

If this show has proven anything, it is that the highborn rarely get their hands dirty. They all have someone else do the dirty work for them. I mean, Tywin gets credit for Robb Stark and he wasn't even physically at the Red Wedding.

So physical proximity may not be that important, since everyone there was connected enough to get a servant or an underling to slip some poison into the wine at just the right time.

Good Point. Although this goes back to my original line of thought which is the act would be unnecessarily complex if Olenna had to take the poison from Sensa, give it to a servant, who slips it in his drink. Too many opportunities to get caught. Why not give it to a servant beforehand and have them hold onto it until drinks are served at the wedding?

I am probably over thinking it. LOL. Now I can't wait to see how this all happened.

If they wanted to, they may never have to answer who did it in the TV version. Tyrion is clearly implicated and Cerci already believes he did it. If we know anything about her, it is that she won't be dissuaded once she sets her mind on something. So she will ensure that Tyrion gets blamed until the end of time without revealing the "real" culprit (even if it somehow turns out to be him).

That'd be super frustrating for the fans, but it would be totally awesome for the show's execs to use tease-after-tease to reveal supposed suspects...kind of like the multiple endings to Clue, but provide ambiguity as to who the real culprit is.

Okay, I've finally gone off the deep end with my thoughts on how the show could really carve its own path from the books. :D

seriously...he was one of the most delicious villains ever on screen and to have that moment crushed by a freaking headline was infuriating, making my hangover that much worse this morning.

On a different note, did the actor playing Bran really hit puberty between seasons, or what? His change in appearance was really jarring and distracting, I thought...

Thought the same thing. Dude looks like he aged 5 years since the last season.

Remember when Stannis used the leeches to curse 3 usurpers? Robb, King Joff, and Theon's dad. Plus he killed His brother with a smoke monster.

Despite the failure at Blackwater, he may come out as the last of the 5 kings standing, thanks to the Red Woman...

interesting framing during the wedding...when the minister says the words "cursed be he who plans to tear them asunder"...as the camera is on Joffrey's bride, the camera racks focus behind her and we see over both of her shoulders the guy who hates the Lannisters (no clue what his name is, but he's the new character this season we met at the ***** house) and Joffrey's Bride's Grandmother. Wondering now if they were somehow in cahoots together on this thing. That shot looked pretty specific for a reason.

That episode was either a master class in foreshadowing or misdirection. Guess we will figure out which as the show goes on.

To all of your questions, I just say watch and find out. This is one plot that Martin actually explains in the books.

Tyrion had opportunity, Sansa had opportunity, Marjorie had opportunity, Olenna had opportunity, and Joffrey himself had opportunity.

As did some others.

Book explains what happened.

It was good. But not the best episode ever as I have seen said on FB a few times. Glad I don't have to see hi space on the screen anymore.

Agree. It had one of the best parts, but by far not the best episode. Of course, that great part is really, really satisfying.

Well, I know who did the deed, if anyone wants to know :D

The one part of the episode that was really, really stupid was how they dealt with Shae. I know Martin wrote it, which makes it even more unforgivable. It really deviates from the book, A LOT, and pisses me off to no end. I know it's a small bit, but it's Martin playing George Lucas, which sucks.

I was away last week and just now watched the episode -- and I was ecstatic!! THRILLED! Jumping up and down clapping and yelling "DIE you twisted SOB! DIE!! DIE!!!" I can't recall ever in my life wanting as much to see a character die as I did Joffrey.

Much controversy over the last episode and the "rape" but the director says be the end it was consensual because basically they have a sick relationship not only because of the incest but the power struggle between them is their "thing". The other thing that people are up in arms about is that they say the show is glorifying rape?!!?

This is a show based on ancient times where people didn't have the same moral values, did what they wanted including rape, murder and war. To me glorifying something is when you do it on screen and make it appears admirable or OK.

That is not what happened!

Anyone who takes this show for more than an entertaining fiction is beyond insane.

I think lots of people are pissed because it is such a deviation from the book in terms of developing Jamie's character.
