Books are much better.

It's incredible knowing the books (mostly) are better. Just means the books are some of the best not only in the genre, but of their time.

The first three are for sure. I think the TV show might be able to improve on the last 2 bloated books, though.

I wouldn't say bloated, but poorly constructed, yes. The material is fantastic, it's just organized all wrong.

Looks like I can get the second book on PDF free from the interwebs. Nice.

Getting pumped for the new season! Does anyone know when episode 1 is premiering? I am seeing and hearing April 7? Not soon enough!

Oh man, I am soooo bouncing around in impatience for this. Starts next Sunday, and he's released another advance chapter of the next book--the best one yet.

What I told my cousin, who just finished watching the show for the first time, is to remember that last season was literally only half of a book. Those who know books...yeah. I'll leave it at that.

There is a guy at my work who goes to the movies all the time and then likes to talk (spoil) about them at lunch. I've instituted a new rule for him. Every time he spoils a movie for me I throw out another Game of Thrones spoiler, as I have read the books and be hasn't.

I've already ruined this next season for him. I hope he learns his lesson.

Too funny! Are the books pretty much the same as the movies? I have not read the books. Not sure I can because I always daydream when I am reading! :thud:

He needs to stop releasing chapters and just finish the damn book already. Freaking glacier.

Fairly faithful adaption. Lots of editing, as the books are mammoth. The shows may start to deviate a little in the next 2 seasons, as the structure of the books won't translate to film very well (2 books occur simultaneously).

The show definitely hits all the high notes from the books, though, even if it has to scale them down due to budget considerations.

So far, what do you like better?? TV series or the books?

The first 3 books are better. You just can't capture the scale of the battles in the books with the budget they have on the TV show. But HBO does have the opportunity to potentially improve on Books #4 and #5, I think. Getting through those was actually a chore. I finished reading them out of obligation, rather than enjoyment. (Although #5 got really good again by the end)

I think the beauty of the TV show is that they will be able to make the stories in those books more coherent and sleek, which will actually make it pretty good TV.

But so far, the books are just so much more rich with detail, that it is hard to say TV is better.

I almost posted that as well. However while I think the TV series will flow better than the last two books, it still won't be able to match the greatness of the books. Even book 4 that was everyones least favorite.

I agree, with one caveat. It wasn't a chore to get through books 4 and 5--the material was still great--but they did screw up in allowing him to do what he did.
