Really starting to sour on the series... Sick of the Mother of Dragons, her story has fallen flat and has become very tiresome.

Still love this show. One of the best on TV. Can't wait for the new season already.

Ian McShane has been cast for Season 6 in a small role. Can't wait to see what they make him do... Perhaps a Greyjoy or Sam's father?

the show at this point has now officially passed by the books, right?

Correct. They've even done major things on the show at complete, irrevocable odds with the books. Which would be fine, if they had done them well. IMO, the drop-off in quality this last season was horrendous. The first season I won't be purchasing on DVD. I really hope this season brings back the quality.

Yes and no. The vast majority of the books have been passed. However, there were story lines initially dropped from TV that, based on new character casting, they may be circling around to revisit. Now that they are doing 8 seasons (for 7 books), they may mine some older content, re-jumble the timeline to fir TV, and that could be most of this season. There are a tone of Iron Islands (Theon's family) storylines in the books still and they have definitely cast some of those characters this year.

But for the main characters, they are in uncharted territory.

But we also don't know how much GRRM has made available to the writers his next book/storylines

I thought the filming of this season was delayed to give GRRM a chance to do more writing. I thought I read he basically told the writers of the show what was going to happen with some detail around his plans for characters and story lines?

Yeah I thought I read something similar, but don't remember where. I also thought GRRM told the writers of the show the ending for the book series.

This is the most frustrating tease for a show I've ever seen. They did it brilliantly without giving anything away. I love how in the GoT world no one is safe, in any episode, compared to shows like Walking Dead where they try and say that no one is safe but everyone knows that there are numerous characters who won't be killed off, especially outside of the premieres or finales.

This looks so epic. I am still curious to see what happens with Jon Snow. Does he comeback at something different? Does something possess him? Is he only going to comeback in dream or supernatural appearances? He definitely has been spotted on set so his character is doing something.

Man...I can't wait.

No. I won't read the books past where the show is. I will wait. Almost always I think the books are better than I end up being disappointed in TV shows or movies.
