Most Disgusting Montage

Solid opener.

Well, that was just...effing amazing! My hyper-critical friend and I watched together. Can't count the number of times we gave the 'holy crap' laughter, cackling with glee. Neither of us had a single complaint, and we both agreed it was the best opening episode ever (save maybe for season 1), and one of the better episodes they've done. As much as the writers dogged it for most of two seasons, they NAILED it here. About as complete a 180 as possible from last season's opener.

Total garbage. Just mailing it in at this point. Not one redeeming moment. I can't believe people watch this crap.

So who do you think Euron is going to bring to Cersei? Tyrion?

Epic opening. However, the rest of the episode seem to prod along a bit. I mean there are only what 6 episodes left to wrap this up? They need to pick up the pace but still solid.

So it seems a few people were triggered by Ed Sheeren's cameo...
Yeah I don't care, as long as it doesn't become a recurring theme that celebrities make frequent cameos.

Happens every year.

Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol lead a sing-a-long of marching troops
Of Monsters and Men sang during the play Arya watched last season
Coldplay played at the Red Wedding
Sigur Ros (another Icelandic group) played at Joffrey's Wedding (and the actor who played Hodor is a huge fan)

etc.

I don't even know who that is.

I'm old.

Impossible. His first couple of albums were great. I haven't heard much of his most recent, but I'm sure it's above average.

Great interview as well. Very down to Earth for someone as popular as he is.

And, I'm four years your senior, so it's not an "old" thing, you whippersnapper.

Yeah, Sheeran was fine. If I didn't recognize him, I wouldn't have cared. He sang for about a minute, but that's it. I thought it was a decent cameo and part of a very important scene, IMO. The first time we've seen the human side of Cersei's army. And Arya actually encountering human beings that aren't trying to kill or torture her.

Great opening, and really, really well acted by David Bradley, who basically played Arya playing Walder Frey. Brilliant. And the scene ends brilliantly with her telling the servant girl, "Tell them the North remembers. Tell them that winter is coming for House Frey."

So many other good scenes in this episode. Sansa and Jon at odds, expected, but what I enjoyed more was Sansa's treatment of Littlefinger, basically dismissing him. Also can't overlook Lyanna, still stealing whatever scene she is in. Just a shot of her looking on shows the intelligence and strength she has--let alone her dressing down of a much older noble about letting women fight.

Also really liked Dany's homecoming--the silence was great and Emilia Clarke's acting was spot on.

I'm about 75% sure now that Jaime is going to kill another mad king (queen).

Sam's stuff was great -- and probably the best Citadel scenes thus far in the show. The montage was suitably disgusting and was so well edited. And Jim Broadbent! Great appearance, and GREAT Harry Potter reference.
Many will remember that Tom Riddle asked Slughorn for access to the restricted section, exactly like Sam did. And of course, Sam gets into the restricted section in secret, just like Harry did.
There was also a few other nice nods -- like the Dagger in the book he was reading (which was in Season 1 and was actually in a picture with Arya on the cover of EW at one point a few weeks ago) and seeing
Jorah
in the jail cell of the Citadel. Can't wait for
Sam curing him with Dragonglass!

And that leads us to one of my (now) favorite characters -- the Hound. What a compelling change his character has made. I for one cannot wait for the inevitable Clegane Bowl. The gravedigging scene was great, as was his interactions with Beric and Thoros.

No, it's not impossible. If I didn't have 3 teenage (one about to be 20) daughters, I would have no clue who Ed Sheeran is as well. And I have listened to many of his songs, went to a concert even, and I think he is far from "great". He can barely play guitar and his voice is so limited he has to use gimmicks to sound cool.

So.... could the least impactful scene of the first episode end up being the most important to the overall story arc?

The "three eyed raven" just crossed the Wall. Is he supposed to do that? Is doing that somehow affecting the spells that keep others from doing so as well?
