Ok..You are right to say we cannot prove that Whiz is bad at preparing our team. But how does anyone explain that we gave up 24 sacks in 3 games? Gave up 9 sacks to St Louis and 5 to Buffalo? They recorded 25% of their total sacks against us. Yes the OL sucks...but it has sucked for the last 4 years...yet nothing seems to change. The play calling is abysmal at best. And yet it never seems to change.

I guess we will all agree to disagree...but the Cardinals either need 2 stud OL and a stud QB or new coaches to fix and correct what we have.

John Fox is a great coach. He was 1-4 and then decided to change it all last year....and he adjusted and won. Now he has Manning...readjusted and is winning again. You cant just use your system and expect because it worked once it will always work. This the NFL...which stands Not For Long....You need to constantly adjust and grow. Whiz in my opinion..and based on the last 3 years,,,doesn't do that.

Thank you, that is a solid post and I can agree with all of what you have said, except for who the coaches are that need to go. I think Grim and Miller need to go and if there is not significant improvment next year, then Whiz is done. Grab a C and OG, get rid or Snyder or Colledge and let Sendlein be your primary backup. If I were a betting man, Colledge would go because of the stupid money given to Snyder. Leave the OT as is with Levi, Massie and Potter.

Talk about gambling. I have to see a whole lot more of Potter and Massie needs to show ALOT more in the 2nd half in order to make that statement.

I didn't say I would do that, but I feel that is how it will play out.

PJ thank you, this helps the point I am trying to make, no one could make this team go with what we currently have. The real question is how and why did this team get to this point in the first place. Why weren't competent backups gotten long before the team was in dire straits? Batiste and Young have been on this team for what 2-3 years now and and apparently in the coaches minds they were competent backups when all along they were dead weight turnstiles.

Heap has been a waste of a roster spot, and the list goes on and on. I hope we can at least agree that the coaches for the most part evaluate the talent and the final makeup of the roster by the time pre-season is over. If they don't why are they even getting paid since they are with them day in and day out every day. If they are coaching them and not the ones who have the most say in who goes and who stays then this team is pretty f'd up.

We have been saying this team has marginal talent for some time now so why does it not get better? My theory is if you have a marginal collection of players then you also have a marginal coaching and/or front office staff because no one sets a standard of excellence or their idea of excellence is marginal.

We do agree that the talent is lacking in several areas. I have been a fan since 1967 and have seen coaches come and go. Some better than others.

One thing I just never see is a competent GM. Just for arguments sake let's say I agree with you that all of the personnel issues are the fault of the head coach. If that is the case what the hell is the front office doing? They have the power to make any change they want.

Well you don't make it to the head coaching spot on an NFL team without being able to make adjustments, let alone do it for six yrs. now.

Some of the issues many of us have with the coaches is that they are too slow to adjust in actual games.

Injuries as stated have played a major role in what the O is able to accomplish this season.

On the D side, we just need to tackle more consistently and create more turnovers which the coaches emphasized during the pre-season. And don't give up the long pass plays.

Not always. I'm sure you remember Dave McGinnis who was hired as the Cards head coach after guiding the Cards defense from 1996-99 to 26,25,24,and 27th rankings and whose D was allowing around 30 points per game when Tobin was fired. He was with the Cards for 8 seasons!

Of course when talking about the Arizona Cardinals it's always easy to find a negative exception to every rule.

:D

Play calling speaks very directly to game preparation---

Check this out:

Note: This is the game where moments later FS Jarius Byrd intercepted Kolb on a short pass over the middle. Then he does the same in OT on a short pass over the middle from Skelton: Here were the calls for the first series of OT:

1 & 10: LSH left for 0 yards.

2 & 10: Skelton INC short right to LSH

3 & 10: Skelton INT by J. Byrd short middle to Housler

________________________________________________________________

The patterns are all there---the predictability is all there---it's so bad that the free safeties are playing 8 yard passes over the middle...

Note: much of the point of deferring the coin toss is so you get the ball the start the 2nd half---right?

Coming out from half-time the coaches have made some adjustment and you are ready to move the ball, right?

5 games:

On first series (1st and 2nd halfs)---3 points---and two interceptions over the middle on passes less than 10 yards by free safeties accounting for a pick six and a game winning FG in OT.

Talk about glaring tendencies and predictability---

Speaks to an egregious lack of game preparation---

You did convince or one thing with that and that is that Skelton likes to check down by throwing it to the other team. He sucks more now in my mind then he did before you posted that. Good job, you finially convinced me of something.

So you're now blaming Harrison Smith's picksix on lack of game preparation by the coaches?

http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/20121...0000082842&recap=fullstory&analyze=playbyplay

how can anybody watch that play and come to the conclusion the problem was the play call? It was 3rd and 6, we had multiple guys in the route, if you watch John's head he looks at Doucet the entire way which is why Harrison Smith is sitting there waiting for the pass. If he just looks to his left he has LSH essentially even with him wide open he could have flipped the ball to him and he had a reasonable shot of getting the first down. the 2 outside guys were covered but Skelton didn't know that he never looked. When he stepped up to avoid the pressure he'd been looking at Doucet the entire play.

That's not a playcall issue, it's a QB issue.

The one in the OT K9 reviewed that and it's a similar play but not the same play the distance is different and it's more to the left on that play. Again Skelton stared down Housler on that play so much that the FS jumped the route.

Both of those picks by Byrd were the result of a QB not looking off a safety not lack of preparation.

But Banky---it was Kolb too---

It's the same plays---different opponent---

Not only did the Cardinals make FS's Jarius Byrd and Harrison Smith look like All-Pros...how about this---why was FS Dashon Goldson able to PASTE Early Doucet on a four yard pattern? Remember that play?

The opponents' free safeties can play UP---WAY UP---and the Cardinals keep calling the same 2-8 yard passes.

The Cardinals at most can have 5 receivers on routes in their 12 yard rectangle---which means the defense can have 7 in that rectangle! With a 4 man rush.

Proof of not watching film---the Cardinal coaches themselves aren't aware of their own tendencies. Why else would they call the same plays over and over and over?

The Cardinals' offensive coaches are a DC's and defensive unit's dream come true---they can tee up and play up all game long. They are a highlight reel waiting to happen.

Such hindsight school of thought here. So on those pass plays, were they all just one man routes? If not, maybe the coach intended for the passes to be thrown at a different receiver. OR, if those passes would have been complete rather than incomplete would the playcalling have then been excellent. Players execute on the field, not coaches. A multitude of things have to come together for a play to be successful and due to our lack of talent, those things have not come together.

Your posts prove nothing other than you are speculating and using those speculations to back your negative views of our coaching staff.

You are in such denial---it's unreal.

Who calls the plays?

Who coaches the QB where to look?

Who coaches the QB how to look off the safety?

Kolb and Skelton BOTH do it---repeatedly.

How about the pick six Kolb threw on a three yard pass to start the second half of the Raider pre-season game? After playing so well late in the first half no less.

Kolb and Skelton were intercepted on 8 yard passes up the middle by Jarius Byrd.

Both of them did it.

I'm thinking the QB staring at the guy he's throwing to on every play might have something to do with that?

God he nearly got Fitz levelled a couple of plays later on the same thing, Goldson was just watching Skelton and running to where he looks.

The exact same thing Byrd did.

You also need players to run your system successfully. It's not all coaching & the system that wins...it's just not. IMO not many coaches, could've succeeded with its 2 starting OTs, best QB & its top 2 RBs out for most of any NFL season!!!

How good was Fox in Carolina the last 3 yrs? What about Mike Shannahan? He hasn't won jack in Washington! Fisher in Tennessee? Reid the last few in Philly? How brilliant was Bellicheat in Cleveland? Gibbs in his return to the Skins? Yep they all became stupid coaches.

Does Wiz need to make a few changes on his staff? Yes. But be careful running off the most successful coach in franchise history because you might land Lou Holtz, Bobby Petrino, Rich Kotite or Chris Palmer.

Remember 1977, when Bowtie fired Don Coryell? The Cards didn't qualify for the playoffs in a full season until 24 years later. I'm giving Wiz 1 more year before pulling the plug on everyone, including the so called GM.

More talent & less injuries please!

I'm thinking the QB staring at the guy he's throwing to on every play might have something to do with that?

God he nearly got Fitz levelled a couple of plays later on the same thing, Goldson was just watching Skelton and running to where he looks.

The exact same thing Byrd did.

There's cause an effect at play here too Russ---you know that.

When you leave two poor pass blocking tackles one on one as often as CKW and Miller have---you've got 2.1 seconds to throw the ball. Where's he supposed to look with 2.1 seconds?

Why is it that EVERY Cardinal QB under CKW not named Warner has done it?

The system---it is what it is.

What's the only offense they can run?

The no-huddle---

Why?

No coach interference---they can grip it and rip it.

Well that was the longest 8 yard pass in history then. The LOS was the Cards 20, Byrd intercepted the pass at the Cards 35 yard line. Seems like 15 yards to me?

The Kolb one was a 9 yard pass, the other one was a 15 yard pass. What did they have in common, the QB didn't look off the safety.

You can't seriously think that Kolb and Skelton have never been told to look off the safety? They don't do it well enough, Kolb is better at it than Skelton but both guys tend to stare down guys. remember the first SF game last year when the announcers said SF told them they didn't need to do anything special because Skelton tries to throw it to Fitz everytime and they just watch his eyes?

If this is a coaching issue why does skelton have 16 INT's in his last 401 passes and Kolb has only 11 in 436 over the same 2 years? They have the same coaching and the same preparation, one guy throws about 50% more INT's than the other guy it's a player issue not a preparation issue.

the picksix was entirely on Skelton, hell even he was pointing at himself after the play.

I don't like us deferring to the 2nd half either complained about it several times. But the idea is to score first in the 2nd half not throw the ball to the defense.

It's a team game, what can the coach do when the QB can literally flip the ball to his RB for a first down and instead throws into double coverage for a picksix?

Last season the FOX guys told us plain as day that the 49er coaches felt they didn't need to do anything to confuse Skelton. They would just wait for him to force the ball into coverage. He doesn't look off safeties and he tends to lock on Fitz so just read his eyes. They said that on air.

Goldson said it on local tv the night after that game said that's the fun part of a game for a defender when you know they're throwing and you can just watch the QB's eyes and come up to make hits.

SF got pressure on us the whole game rushing 4 guys. If we double both outside guys that leaves 3 guys in the pattern, against 7 defenders, think that's going to work?

The problem is we can't pass protect and our QB's aren't very good.

So Skelton & Kolb would be world beaters in the Pats offense?

IYO Mitch, will things change if Wiz hires a new Oline coach & OC or is Wiz a failure as a coach in your mind? Just wondering...

Your posts prove nothing other than you are speculating and using those speculations to back your negative views of our coaching staff.
agree 100%. That's an incredibly simplistic review of the plays. Was the short pass left to King the same play as the short pass left that was incomplete. Without knowing the routes called, the defensive alignment, the formation, and numerous other variables, that play chart is useless.

It's like looking at a pitching chart and seeing fastball, fastball, fastball, curveball and trying to figure out how the pitcher was throwing.

What I would ask is what special aspect does CKW bring to the table as a head coach?

Game management?

Charismatic motivation of the players?

Ray Horton and Kevin Spencer are the only two coaches on the current staff that are worth holding onto. The rest are not getting the job done.

Last year's resurgence was about Ray Horton---he got the players' heads back into it.

This year the players see they are dealing with incompetence in the other areas and they are now demoralized.

It takes tremendous physical and mental sacrifice to show up to play week after week. It takes the right kind of coach and systems to keep the players hungry.

The Cardinal players couldn't even get up for two prime time games---both embarrassing one-sided losses.

That in itself tells you about the coaching.

I think Horton is a HC in 2013. Would the Cards in fear of losing him, fire everyone & hire Ray as the new HC? It would be un-Cardinal like to eat salaries in this move, but you never know. Mitch, is Horton the coach the Redbirds need IYO?

I think he would breathe new life into the team. He would have to have a plan for an OC---and a vision as to what style of offense the Cardinals should play. Defensive coaches know best what kinds of offense give them the most fits---or should I say give them the most Fitz!

But---if it were up to me, I would go all-out to hire Chip Kelly. The buzz in the nest would be at an all-time high. This guy is the most hungry, innovative and unconventional coach i have seen in a long, long time. He will not only be driven to win---he will be wanting to score 40-50 point per game. In this tough NFC West we need someone with the special skill, vision and hunger to pull it off. Kelly will be a joy to watch.

One question: If our coaching is so horrendously awful.... how come they're not the laughing stock of sports radio? Or are they ripping Whiz and Co. when I'm not listening.

Dems---if fans in NY or any of the major markets were watching this unfold as it has---they air waves would be deafening.

The media in AZ is so docile---as are the Bidwills---that's a major part of the problem.

Look at how CKW and the Bidwills reacted to winning and going to the Super Bowl. They nearly screwed up the Warner deal---they have put together a pitiful offense since---the only thing they've done right is hire Ray Horton---finally a REAL 34 coach.
