The problem is that the players will not blame their poor defense but the absence of Amare. They will demand another chance and the Front Office end up doing NOTHING during the off-season. The result is that next season we still have the exact same players with unchanged mentality. No matter how great the coach is gonna be, this team will never improve significantly in the next years.

Bleh, I wish people would stop blaming the coaches. It's obvious it wasn't D'Antonio's fault, nor Porter, nor Gentry.

Players have to make plays.

The only one that seems to be doing it is Lou - I was surprised vs. Houston that the first guy off the bench was <gulp> Robin!

Basketball is a business and like any business - if there is a problem, any problem, the problem is management. Its one of the lessons the Japanese learned early and well from the great American industrial engineer - W. Edwards Deming. Sadly, the US has never learned it - as the old saying goes, a prophet is never respected in his own land.

In basketball its obviously true - how could it be otherwise with management (owner, front office, coaches) choosing the players and dictating who plays? Not to mention the fact that its the well oiled organizations that stay in almost continuous contention for the big prize. The rest of the teams are cannon fodder.

Coaches do matter - if it didn't there would be a random distribution of championships among them and thats not remotely close to being the case.

He got off to a great start, using lots of bench throughout the games to keep the tempo high. Since it worked well you'd think he'd stay with it - the only thing I can think of is that he simply panicked at the thought of putting the less experienced guys on the floor in must-win games.

It really doesn't much matter that we lost the games - the way he's running the older guys into the floor we'd have been dead meat in the playoffs anyway.

Maybe at some point when coach after coach after coach doesn't use the bench some of us would figure out that the bench just sucks and the level of play drops off too dramatically.

Could maybe that be the answer instead of DA/Porter doesn't know how to coach or Gentry is a coward?

In most of case I know, it is simply because the stars want to stay on court. Keeping your star players happy is a part of the job for coaches. Sometimes, in some teams, it is the main job.

It doesn't really matter if the bench does suck, we've been down the road of being shorthanded and worn out in the playoffs enough to convince me it is not a winning approach to the game. I'd much rather see us go down in flames using the bench enough to play SSOL style basketball all game, every game. Of course, it probably won't get us that far but, do you, does anyone, have any hope for the path Gentry has taken? The last three games don't bode well for it, do they? Would you even go so far as to claim the team looked better playing with the short bench than it did the few games when the young guys were in the mix? It didn't look like it to me, and our older guys are now the worse for wear.

Frankly, I don't think Dudley, Dragic and Tucker suck - they look like inexperienced players of modest talent who are gradually improving. All of them have made some positive contributions but the main thing is they are who we have, for better or for worse and they have to play if we are going to play the type of ball Gentry said he wanted - and which I would like to see for once.

It seems like opposing teams in the NBA have gotten younger, faster and more talented while the Suns have gotten older and slower. The Suns have squandered numerous opportunities to add more talent over the past few years in the draft but didn't. Drafting players like Tucker and Lopez in the first round and trading or selling other first round picks does not cut it. Also Griffin and Kerr cannot evaluate talent. The future is not looking very bright, even more so since the Suns traded away their 2010 first round pick.

Sometimes one has to look at the Suns and ponder the question. Are the Suns a very good basketball team anymore?

If Sarver and/or Kerr wont go , then we will never be good again.

Gentry is not the long term solution. We need someone like Avery or JVG to shake things up a bit, including all necessary roster changes.

There is not a man in the NBA I hate more than JVG. Have you ever listened to his commentary on a Suns game?

JVG is an idiot if they brought him in they risk losing fans imo! Not to mention you would probably have to get ALL new players because don't think any of the current ones would want to play for him.

I totally agree about not wanting JVG.
