In 20 years when the public begs to see another Star Wars movie, this is the type of attitude that prevented it. I can completely understand his position.

is there really anyone begging to see another Star Wars at this point?

Ok, maybe I'm confused. What did you mean when you said 'You decided that it wasn't quite right so you change the receipt?'
Well the whole 'who shot whom first', and Ewoks are a deviation from Wookies to name a few.

'You' meant 'the baker' (ie George Lucas).

'I'm the majority' remark was my failed attempt at being humorous...

And just because the original movies had serious cheesy parts, doesn't mean Lucas was exempt to from catching grief for Jar Jar Binks, irrelevant pod racing, and just general lameness like casting of the above dude. Hey, Lucas, feel free to up some effort into things other than CGI.

Pod racing is awesome. You can knock a lot of things, but not pod racing.

Just wait until Lucas redoes Phantom Menace and gives us his true vision for that project...one big 2 hour pod race.

I see it more as him saying, "No one liked what I did, so why would I bother making more of it?"

ie, if I were still a baker, and everyone hated my bread, and some dang near dedicated their lives to insulting me & my breadmaking...I'd stop making bread. I don't see it so much as a "taking my ball and going home" as "the public has spoken".

No one has answered his question: "Why would I make any more when everybody yells at you all the time and says what a terrible person you are?"

the public spoke by pouring millions into all 3 new movies.

Maybe I should read the books. Are they worth the trouble?

I like them, most of them anyway (not a fan of the Republic Commando, Medstar or Rogue Squadron books). I just finished Darth Plaqueis, which was about Sidious' mentor and how the Emperor became Sith...it was good, the author James Luceno has written some of the better novels.

You can find novels set in every possible timeline in the Star Wars history, from thousands of years prior to the movies to decades following Return of the Jedi.

Lucas gives the OK on what is and isn't acceptable to write about, who can/can't be killed off...so far they've only killed one of the hero characters from the movies.

I probably won't like them. I don't like anything. :)

I read the New York Times article. It makes him look like a cry baby. He says he is done, yet all 6 movies are being released in 3-D. I think he is all talk.

I just finished Darth Plaqueis.

I seriously couldn't take any villian seriously who was named after tooth build up.

Maybe that is why he turned bad, cause his parents gave him that name.

I think he has a point. Critics can kill a saga. If Twilight fans, for example, demanded quality cinema, that series would have died after the first movie. But since the mindless teenage girl crowd consumes nothing but glitter and crap, they keep getting made.

"Heir to the Empire" is still my favorite series.
"Shadows of the Empire" is a good stand alone book.
"Rogue Squadron" is the best spin-off series.

Those should be required reading for any real Star Wars fan. The rest vary between really good and garbage. But no matter what, Lucas requires that all the books exist in the same universe, so the continuity from author to author remains intact.

The 'Clone War' animated series is great!!! I wonder why? oh wait, maybe it's due to other people writing the scripts instead of some dufus putting teddy bears in that can kick the crap out of storm troopers!

Venting accomplished!

+1

Clone Wars is, in fact great.

It takes all the things that Star Wars is, and concentrates it.

A good action series, with decent plot, lots of pretty colors, cool action, cool special effects, and Jedi's.

Sorry to say, and this is from someone who watches the movies and series.......Star Wars is not too much removed from that kind of thing.

Instead of glitter, we get light sabres.

Instead of mush, we get action-hero dialogue.

Let's not get too crazy here.

When each new movie came out, the fans went out in droves to watch it.

They all made ridiculous amounts of money.

Some critics give him bad reviews, and call him bad names, and all of a sudden "nobody like him anymore".

Hogwash, and there is a multi-billionaire franchase with his name on it to prove it.

As you put it, "Nobody likes his bread....". No, plenty of people liked the bread, a few didn't, and made Lucas cry.

If only I could be unsuccessful like Lucas, and have a multi-billion dollar fairlure, "that nobody likes, but still seems to rake in cash.

How about this:

Just stop making bread. Don't go public and whine about people not eating your bread. Settle down, you just made a bajillion on bread that you admit people overrated because 1) the bread was cool looking and 2) they were kids anyway.

Yeah, what he said.

Oh well, the Clone Wars and the books are awesome and continue the saga nicely. He has a say in what they can and can't do (and what they can write about--off limits is Yodas background & Luke & Leia as kids) but he doesn't write any of the stories.

Why are those off limits ?

You could make an amazing, original story, out of Yoda's past.

But, before that I want to know where Obi Won comes from.

Not sure, you'd have to ask Lucas, not only is Yoda off limits his whole alien race is off limits.

There are stories of the young Obi Wan, he wouldn't have much of a background prior to being a Jedi because he entered the order as a baby.
