They went over coaching vacancies and candidates...

They spent most of the time talking about Jim Fassel - and Brandt seemed to imply he was the best guy available....

The host asked: where do you think Fassel ends up....Gil said: I have no inside information - but I would want to go to a team that has cap room and a young qb..Gil then talked awhile without mentioning ateam.....then at the end Gil said: I think Arizona would be the best fit. He said Josh Mccown was the best qb at the Combine when he came out of college..and he said it would be a good situation for Fassel. He said he watched some of the 3 games Mccown played....and he thought it was a good start.

That was it......I know this is not exactly a non-biased opinion because Gil has been spouting off about Mccown before - especially when he was drafted.....

but I think it is incorrect to assume that Fassell will have AZ at the bottom of his list. We may not be at the top of the list....but he will strongly consider coaching here.

What I like to call the old timers of the NFL (gil brandt, joe bugel types) rarely say much about Denny Green but they seem to like Fassel...not that this means much.

I would be ok with Green or Fassel.

Damn you Pinnacle (-: I'm all set to draft Ben and then you tell me that Brandt is that high on Josh and ruin. I'm a big believer in Brandt he's got a proven track record. That said I still want to draft Ben!

Russ.....I think we could still take Ben if he is available....but I do not think it is a given....and the decision will not be as easy as perhaps we think it is... That goes for both sides - it will not be easy to dismiss mccown as a potential starter..nor will it be easy to say he is the guy - it will probably come down to the wire..

I think Gil has said before he thought mccown was every bit as good as Harrington and Carr...but then again - he is about the only guy who seems to think that...

If the Cards pass on a QB in the first, my inclination is to trust that they know what they're doing ( ) and McCown CAN be the man.

But if that's the case, then I hate our position. If we could get a deal done to move back to 8 or 9th, I'd feel better about taking a CB.

I think moving down might not be as easy as we think, manning and Ben are the most likely targets, so if one of them is there we should be able to do it, but if they're both gone I suspect we'll have a harder time dealing the pick.

I still think Ben is the logical choice, if not you can make an argument for a few players, Wilfork, Taylor, Roy Williams, Fitgerald all of those guys fit the best player available tag. I'm just not convinced any of those guys are going to be coveted enough to trade down.

I know people don't want to spend another high pick on a WR but it sure would be fun to watch Roy Williams and Quan with Johnson at #3 for the next several years.

I don't think it'll be easy at all--even with Ben R. there. And I, for one, would love to see us take R. Williams or L. Fitzgerald. at #3 if the organization feels pretty good about McCown.

great comments !!!!

This is just one more reason I think Fassel is the right person at the right time.

It only makes sense for "the brass" to be in Dallas today. Regardless of what happens. It just gives them that many more options and can only help their position.

I'm guessing Fassel is hired and will be a big part of the final decision making process as to exactly which way the team is going to decide to go. This is where is see Fassel fitting in very, truely synegystically right now.

Notice how this word "plan" keeps cropping up. From both sides. Even silver tongued Denny made sure he included it in his emanations. That's another reason I so strongly prefer Fassel....
I just flat don't trust Green. He may be OK, but again he may not.

At least, I think, with Fassel ....What you see is exactly what you get. In fact I see him much like Bill Cowher in that respect. These guys wear their heart on their sleeve sometimes.

I see some really nice possibilities developing here.

I think a lot of Gil myself and what he thinks of QB's and basically what he has always said about McCown was the same thing I said that he is built exactly like the prototype QB for today's NFL and it would only boil down to his head which is the same thing everyone worries about in any QB except with McCown there is no but he has a weak arm, can't run, can't make all the throws kicker to worry about.

McCown to me showed the most in bouncing back from throwing a pick in his first game to score a td and then in the last game bouncing back from a bad rest of the game to finish strong and win.

You really have to expect a new QB to do all sorts of wrong things but the question is do they learn from it and do they let it get them down and just give up.

He seems to learn and he competes to the end and so I think he has every chance to be a pro bowl type QB as much so as anyone in this years draft.

All that being said it is such a leap from measurables to franchise QB that picking a high QB to increase our odds of definitely finding the guy to lead this team for years is a good idea still.

You ever see "Bruce Almighty?" There's a scene when Jim Carey makes his rival newscaster just speak jibberish. I think that's what happened here in the second half of your very long sentence.

ESAD? Don't know what that means, but I'll bet it's cruel. :(

FYI....in adding a little more specific information to my original post: ...the host specifically asked which option would be the best for Fassel and which one is he likely to choose....Gil talked a little bit about the qb, cap room, denied he had any inside info, etc... and then said...Arizona. then he talked about mccown....at this stage of the interview - he did not mention another team..FYI.

The host had been ragging on the Redskins for alot of the morning....saying how how could anyone work for Snyder when he brings in consultants and old coaches without letting the head coach know what he is doing....but I cannot remember if he talked with Gil about the Redskins..they talked mostly about the playoff matchups this weekend and co-winners of the MVP award..then they got into the coaching vacancies..

I suppose there is no perfect opportunity for a head coach (atlanta is probably the closest thing) this offseason - which is why the previous coaches had little success.....and why the positions are available in the 1st place...

I was just teasing you that sentence you belittled me for was basically unreadable but you quoted it so fast I couldn't edit it.
