I thought T Jones looked a lot better in tampa.. he may have grown and learned a bit so. Plus they are different styles so I could see why Lovie would want Jones over A train.AzCards21 said:Anyone else here see the irony of releasing T. Jones, him riding the trade-go-round to Chicago then the Bears sending A. Thomas to us? Who's getting screwed here?
If Thomas can't beat out Jones I'm worried.

If the guy came in and had a decent year it would be worth it. He has got to be hungry to prove someone wrong for giving up on him. I really cant see why they would ever let him go, but hey their loss is hopefully the cards gain.MaoTosiFanClub said:I'm all for this if Green thinks we can win this year with our cuurent cast + ATrain. If A-Train means the difference between a 4-12 and 6-10 campaign I 'd rather keep the 2nd round pick. Now if it's a 3rd round pick I'd do this deal in a second but only for a third rounder. Although he's nothing spectacular, A-Train is a definite upgrade over our current crop of RBs.

.Can they be that happy with Thomas Jones?
C-MACK said:I thought A-Train was out for another month with a pulled abdominal muscle. I doubt we'd give up a 2 for a guy who can't even play right now.
sure those things may be true, but he can play football and right now.. we need all the "players" we can get.Tangodnzr said:This MIGHT be worth looking at, given some certain circumstances.
First of all here's what Mike Mulligan wrote about him in this years Sporting News Football Annual.
"Incumbant Anthony Thomas, the 2001 Offensive Rookie of the Year, has a downhill, straight-line running style. Thomas strictly is a between-the-tackles type who lacks the vision and burst to produce long runs. The Bears replaced him because he leaves yards on the field and has to stop and gather himself in order to catch the ball. But Thomas is steady and sturdy with excellent ball security,an area that is a major concern with Jones..."
He doesn't seem to fit much into Denny Green's historical mold.
The team does lack that type of runner right now, so I could see him doing some spot duty...IF Green adapts his system a little to do that...
I guess the 64$ question there is, just how much would he fit and how much is he really worth in that role?
Personally I don't see Green radically modifying HIS system to fit Anthony Thomas.
As someone to spell Emmitt, and short yardage situations, yeah. But again I don't see building an offense around him. And I don't think he's worth a real high price to do that.
I just don't see this as any big block buster, save the Cards move, no matter what.
Could he help? yes maybe....IF the price is right.

He will be starting by game 8. He is gonna be a stud!

i have to fully agree. The system DG uses needs a slasher type back. one that sees the whole open, not make it himself. if Green plans to stick w/a base 3WR set, Thomas is no good to us, except name recognition. We don't need that, we have Emmitt for thatTangodnzr said:This MIGHT be worth looking at, given some certain circumstances.

Wed Aug 25 2004 - The Bears have been holding Thomas out of practice because of a sore abdomen. The Chicago Sun-Times reports the problem is so bad that Thomas is having trouble sleeping.
Tue Aug 24 2004 - Anthony Thomas revealed Monday that he has been out with a torn oblique muscle. The team previously called the injury an abdominal strain. Thomas will try to return to practice next week in hopes of being ready for week one. But this is an injury that can linger.
