BEARS READY TO DEAL A-TRAIN?

With one trade in the books this week, our Chitown mole tells us that the Bears are ready (finally) to move running back Anthony Thomas, who was bumped to the No. 2 spot on the depth chart when Thomas Jones signed on the first day of free agency.

Per the mole, the team is waiting for A-Train's injured oblique muscle to heal before trading him. The Bears believe that third-year pro Adrian Peterson and second-year man Brock Forsey will be more-than-capable off of the bench.

We're also hearing that the Dolphins initially asked for Thomas to be included in the deal for defensive end Adewale Ogunleye, but G.M. Jerry Angelo declined. Apparently, however, Angelo was ready to pony up Thomas, if the Dolphins had made it a deal-breaker.

Now, Angelo hopes to use Thomas in order, at a minimum. to recoup the third-round pick that was sent to Miami with receiver Marty Booker for Ogunleye.

I had heard Thomas was being shopped to the Cards, but the price was too high. I also heard the Dolphins requested Thomas and I heard the Bears called that a deal breaker, so the posted sequence seems questionable, though my info is also questionable. I think Green feels the need to bring in another back, especially after seeing those third and short efforts. Thomas is effective behind drive blocking and it looks like that is all the Cards can manage. I suspect if this deal happens that the pick will be conditional and probably end up a third rounder at best. Clearly Thomas is not a Green-type player. Still desperate time call for desperate measures.

A 2nd rounder is way too high. Marshall Faulk only commanded a 2nd round pick and at the time he was traded from Indy to St. Louis he had already established himself as a superstar. Thomas hasn't come close to that. Now, if we go deep into the playoffs and have a pick at the very end of the 2nd round, it might be worth it...but more than likely we're going to be picking towards the top (injuries suck). That could almost be a 1st round pick for Thomas. Let's also not forget that in the 2nd round last year we got Q and it looks like Denny knows how to pick up first round talent in the 2nd round.

Nothing more than a 3rd or 4th round pick for Thomas (Heck, he's not even there starter so that would still be a deal for Chicago).

I have been told the same thing from one who usually knows. That Miami wanted Booker or Terrell and Thomas, Chicago said no Terrell, and no Thomas, you get Booker and a pick and Miami eventually conceded.

I like your avatar. Phuket, pronounced Poo-Ket, is one of my favorite hangouts. Lately I've been visiting Pattaya since the worls has found out about how beatiflul Phuket is and so the price has gone up. Damn!.

But if your avatar is a reference to something other then football then Bankok is in the same boat. :p
