I've noticed two big changes in the NBA the past few years. The first is that we are playing a tremendous amount of back to back games. Ten years ago we were lucky to play 4 or 5 sets. Now it is almost a weekly or bi-weekly occurrence.
The second change has occurred since the all-star break. How many big name players with big contracts or even smaller contracts that were once huge stars in this league, have been waived as we have been seeing of late? It was usually a troublemaker such as Rodman that a team wished to dispose of. I think that last year we were lucky to see even one person waived. Now we have players like Payton, Davis, Mourning, Robinson and just now Person hitting the open road. Yes, many have asked to be waived, but the present team still needs to pay the salary or pay a buy-out.
I wonder what the newest "thing" will be for next year. Maybe huge incentives for a "majority of contracts" if a team wins so many games in the play-offs. Two sets of refs for every play-off game....one for the first half and one for the second. Coaches have two instant play backs for disputed calls just like the NFL....lose a time-out if you are wrong about a call or technical foul that was committed. Older players have in their contracts that there will be a roster spot on the coaching staff after their BB career ends, or they can buy into the ownership.
I just never expected all of this "waiving of former stars" like we have seen of late.
