AZCB34 tipped me off on Terrell awhile ago, said he was saying all the right things but in minicamp he still wasn't impressing anybody and might get cut.

Still has talent but apparently he's just too immature, he's had the same weaknesses for years and figured he could blame it all on the previous OC. Supposedly he's also lost quite a bit of speed with all the foot problems and he hasn't adjusted to not being as fast as he was coming out of college.

Never liked Walker much.
Russ,

We might finally get the guy you wanted all along!

The way it looks to me is Green wants an attacking defense. He just got rid of his two gap run pluggers and it appears he is going to use Darnell Dockett,Kenny King and Wendell Bryant to rush up the middle in a one gap style of attack. Also bringing in Berry and Karlos Dansby to go along with Ray Thompson should give us a pretty strong pass rush. If guys like Dennis Johnson, Calvin Pace and KVB can stay healthy and take their games up a knotch the Cardinals just might put a little fear into some opposing offenses this year.

Gary, good guess, IMO. In the defensive drills, with all pursuing sideline to sidelline, Marcus Bell and Tanner were terrible.

If I may toot my own horn, I have been telling you about Lorenzo Diamond every chance I got.

Good luck. Those are some of the hardest positions to fill. Every team will be looking for help in those areas.
Maybe DG and Graves are working for a trade

Bell among five cut by Cardinals

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Defensive tackle Marcus Bell was among five players released by the Arizona Cardinals on Tuesday.

Also cut from the roster were defensive tackle Barron Tanner, tight end Steve Bush, defensive back Justin Lucas and quarterback Preston Parsons.

Bell, a fourth-round draft pick out of Memphis in 2001, started nine games last season. Tanner, a six-year NFL veteran, started two.

WOW!!!

Ray Thompson is also on the bubble per MJ - he also says there is more than meets the eye in his situation however. That is more of a wait and see situation compared to a player like Hodgins.

Green called Ray this morning - They had a long discussion.
Ray practiced this morning.

Green wants to make sure Ray WANTS to be a Card.

If the Cards cut him, they could be in the market for a LB.

Wow. You can speculate a lot about this. Why sign a big contract if you don't plan on honoring it? Is he in more trouble with the sauce? Does he want to play for Mac in Titanland? I guess nobody really is safe...

How many times did Ray violated the substance abuse policy? I guess DG wants to know right now if he's gonna be with the team for the full 16 games or will he get suspended for the whole year if he slips up again

If Green really does cut Hodgins and Player - along with all these guys and Blake - AND then there is talk of cutting Raynoch - I'll have a really hard time not giving some good natured ribbing to those who kept repeating ad naseaum last year "Rod has a plan!" - I mean so far - DG has done a pretty swift job of undoing some of the mistakes from the past regime and I have a feeling more are on the way - and all I can say is THANK THE LORD! We may not win many games this year - but damnit if this team isn't going to be a legit playoff team for years down the line come 2005 - keep molding the team anyway you see fit Mr. Green - there's only so much talent on a team that has won 5 of it's last 21 games - with 16 horrendous blowouts thrown in there.

If Thompson does get cut it's not for lack of performance like Hodgins, Player, and Blake. Thompson was already assured a starting spot by Green this year based on last year's play. Something else is obviously going on right now that few know about.

Maybe Jurecki will say something on Fox sports report regarding Ray tonight?

I think (pretty sure) MJ knows, but he seemed hesitant even saying what he did say.

During his own show he said he did not want to say the players name.
During an interview while on the Sportszone, he stated the situation.

I think he just gave a brief outline of the situation.

I guess we just have to watch him tonight or listen to his show tomorrow for us to know whats going on.

I dont know what the situation is, there could be one of many things.

1. Is he apart of a possible trade scenerio.
2. Has he violated the NFL drug policy again?
3. Has Green put another player(Dansby, Hayes, ect.) in his starting spot and now is unhappy.
4. Or none of the above, and something comes out of left field on this one.

Player doesnt make close to 1 mill.

Base salary is 600,000, and his bonus is only 150,000 a year, with one more year left on his contract. That is about average for a vet punter.

Player's cap number is up over 1 million, and is the 5th highest paid punter. I don't know where you got the 600k / 150k?

I got this from USA Today, I wish I knew how to make it more organized.

Nice try but you are wrong.

First of all those numbers are from 2003 not 2004. 2003 was last year, 2004 is this year, which is the year in question.

Second some of those numbers are slightly skewed for a few of the players. As for Scott player his current contract was extended in Nov 2003. His signing bonus was 450,000(it looks like USA today forgot to prorate the signing bonus over the life of the contract), since he was signed before the deadline during the 2003 regular season the Cards were able to spread out the signing bonus over 3 years instead of just the 2 year extension, hence Players bonus this year is only 150,000(450,000/3years). Or the 450,000 could have been a roster bonus in 2003 and all of it counted towards that years cap since we had plenty of cap space left over, not sure if it was a signing bonus or a roster bonus.

Go here for the exact base salaries for Player right from the players association: http://nflpa.org/Members/playerProfile.asp?ID=24399

2003 730769.00
2004 600000.00
2005 700000.00

Eh, tit for tat. I'm sure CaliCard appreciates being talked to like a five year old.

So, now that we know how much Player makes and what year it is....
Why are we looking at cutting players we recently extended?
Strange things are afoot at the Circle K...

Maybe thats a good thing seeing as how WR was clearly the best position on the team last year.

and considering that 'quan was the only good one that's REALLY an indictment of this team's talent last year!
