Although outfielder Luis Gonzalez remains a free agent, his former team has shown no interest in signing him.

But the club met last week with its former face of the franchise, beginning dialogue in what CEO Derrick Hall hopes is a seamless transition into the organization once Gonzalez's playing days are behind him.

"We had some preliminary discussions about his future employment with the team," Hall said. "With all that he has meant to this franchise over the years, (Managing General Partner) Ken (Kendrick) and I thought it was time to reach out."

Maybe he can teach our young players how to juice up without getting caught.

Gonzo was Nuke LaLouche. He was a 5-year-old in the locker room, then a camera would turn on or a mic would get put in his face, and he had about 25 memorized lines that endeared him to the media.

He isn't a bad guy, he's just a bit more of a media image than what reality portrayed.

Yeah, I can't say I welcome this.

This guy wasn't a class act when he left here; all I wanted was for him to go away.

Sorry guys, but I disagree with you.

If Matt Williams, who was implicated in the steroids scandal and has a personality as bland as a glass of milk, can remain with the D'backs in good standing . . . so can Gonzo, who was not implicated and has a much more positive public persona.

RJ and Gonzo are 1-2 in the lineup of D'backs legends, with Schilling a more distant 3rd.

I'd welcome Gonzo back.

'Anyone else feel that way?

P.S.: It's also good marketing for a guy with Hispanic heritage (Cuban) to be included in the active alumni group.

I am there with you, but I am a Gonzo homer. I would love to see the team drop Byrnes and let Gonzo be the 4th OF.

Agreed.

I met Gonzo once and spoke with him for just a bit.... He's a regular, decent kind of guy who along with Schill and Randy, got us a World Series title. That alone makes him someone the team should consider for employment after he leaves the field.

Personally, I think the 3 faces of the DBacks, to date, are 1. Randy, 2. Gonzo, 3. Schill.

I would love to see him come back in some off-the-field capacity once he decides his playing days are done. The only thing I would have a problem with is bringing him back as a player, especially with this clusterfu** we have in the outfield.

i was about 10 years old and i saw him at Harkins. I kinda froze when i saw him, he had his triplets with him, but he could tell I wanted an autograph. He told me to come over, found something to sign, and gave me his autograph. Gonzo will always be the number one D-back in my mind and I'm sure other fans with similar experiences. Not to mention his hit won us the World Series. He was the fan favorite in D-backs history.
