Hearing: Suns are trading Marcin Gortat to the Wizards. Okafor on his way to Phoenix. More details to come.

Proposed deal will send Gortat, Shannon Brown and Kendall Marshall to Wizards and Suns on course to receive Emeka Okafor & at least one pick.

Edit: Gambo says it's a 2014 1st round pick, top 12 protection. Then top 10 protected for the next 6 years.

Wow, holy crap! Now this is a bold move. Okafor is always injured, so there's a good chance he'll never play for the Suns. All this trade does for the Suns is add a pick and lottery balls.

It does beg the question, however, of who the Suns are going to play at the power positions. The only half-decent big man on the roster is Frye, and that's using the term liberally. Losing in the name of next year's draft is fine, to a point, but the team has to figure out some way to be remotely competitive, and they can't do that with the present frontcourt. I wonder whether they'll consider bringing in Drew Gooden for a year.

Here is Okafor's data. He is a 6'11"-260 lb. Center. Last season, his only one with the Wizards, he averaged 26.0 minutes per game (the lowest in his 8-year career). He averaged 9.7 points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game.

What a great deal. A stopgap starting Center at the least, dumping three piece of dead weight and adding another 1st round pick for 2014.

So basically, to get a fourth 1st round pick in the loaded 2014 draft, we have to root for the Wiz to make the playoffs. Stellar trade if that happens, seeing as they're at best a fringe team

I agree, they are loaded for dealing but if/when they finally flip these loads of picks I think they will be swinging for the fences. And while I think Faried is a solid player he is a guy I'd like to add to the team AFTER they land their star.
