In the Coro article it basically says that if Grant goes elsewhere, working for the Suns club after retirement is taken off the table as well.

Big F'n deal! Hill can get a job at ESPN/TNT/anywhere in a heartbeat for NBA or NCAA. He's not Scott Williams.

this seems odd, doesn't it? I mean, if you like the guy... but aren't willing to give him market rate and he goes to get that and a chance to win, why wouldn't he be welcomed back if you think he brings something to the table after he retires?

I guess Sarver takes it personally if a player is not loyal enough. Of course, he doesn't expect a player to take it personally when he tells the player to find another offer for him to match.

No doubt. He's smarter, a better speaker, and way more popular. Oh, Sarver.

It's bullcrap that we wouldn't respect the man if he goes off to a team chasing a title. Having this guy in our organization after his retirement will make more players WANT to come here.

I'd love to see Grant Hill as the Suns GM someday. I guess it will never happen.

for the love of God, Grant! Please, go play somewhere you have a chance to WIN and enjoy the last couple years of your career by playing meaningful games. You're one of the good guys! Go chase a ring dude!

Agree. I would like to see both Grant and Nash change a freaking ring. Don't waste the valuable time you have left playing for this franchise and a boob of an owner.

From an emotional standpoint I like Grant retiring here but we need to get Childress playing time to raise his trade value.

We still need to tank this year.

Forget it, slin, or you'll be disappointed. A team intending to tank is not going to pay 6.5M to a 39-year-old role player. The plan is clearly to be semi-competitive this year and try to make a splash next year. You might not like it, but now it's pretty clear.

The only way they decide to tank is if they get off to a horrible start, which I'm sure a lot of people will root for.

We lost

Brooks - > replaced him with an inferior player Telfair
Carter - > replaced him with an inferior player Brown
Pietrus - > Childress who could not get ahead of him last season will play

Nash is a year older, Hill is a year older

Other than that we added a rookie.

Even if we do not tank it we won't be in the playoff picture.

Carter and Pietrus had not place on this team. I would much rather have Brown than Carter. Brooks and Telfair I will give you, but that one was out of the Suns control.

We replaced them with younger, more athletic players on one year deals. This team is already more watchable.

Yep, although I'd prefer to get a top 5 pick, and acquire additional picks, clearly that ain't gonna happen.

Sorry but the Suns team had its most productive lineup last season with Carter starting. check lineup ratings

Yes he looked like he gave little effort but to think that Shannon Brown is better than Vince Carter is ridiculous. The only thing Brown does better is jump.

Carter is better at everything else, especially creating shots for himself or others and shooting overall.

The Suns wanted to bring in a player that can create for himself and score in the 4th quarter. Is that supposed to be Brown? Then that is a total fail move. I am pretty confident that even if we do not tank we will have a top 10 pick.

The problem is the Suns want it both ways.

they want to compete but at the same time keep all the cap space for 2012. That is delusional and will only cost us a high pick.

But I guess this franchise still does not value picks and will deal our pick at the deadline along with Childress for a better player to try and get the #8 seed.

Just watch I am calling it right now our unprotected pick at the deadline along with Childress and or Warrick for some above average player.

Stop it! Just stop it! I cannot bear that thought. This is the year to NOT make the playoffs.

Better chemistry usually leads to a better team, and just getting rid of Vince Carter and Mickael Pietrus accomplishes that. The Suns lost Shaq, replaced him with Frye and still improved a lot. Of course, back then the Suns had Amar'e, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Suns challenged for a playoff spot. I'm not debating whether that should be their goal, just stating it is.

Considering the Suns can't draft, tell me who the player is going to be? I don't think the Suns would make their pick totally unprotected.

Childress, Warrick and our unprotected pick for Paul Millsap who will end up being a 3rd string PF eventually on the team behind Frye and Morris and traded with future picks to get him off the cap down the road.

With our draft pick which will be around #7-15 after this trade Utah will end up drafting a future allstar.

We shall see. I think Milsap should come cheaper but there is the whole salary thing you include. Who knows who the Suns might want. It seems the time is coming where teams may just outbid other teams for a players if they drop enough salary.

I really don't get Hill and Nash. Where is their ultimate drive to WIN? Do they really just like playing fun basketball where the two of them can be top-dogs of a poopy team? I gotta tell you... and i know I'm gonna get slammed for this... but it kinda makes me think a little less of them as competitors.

Why would you get slammed for it? It's obvious that they're nearing the end of their careers, and both have chosen to avoid a situation where they have any chance of winning a championship. I don't know what other conclusion can be drawn.

I don't think Nash and Hill's drive to win can be questioned. If they want to do that for the Suns, that is their prerogative. They can play their best for the Suns and try and make them a winner. A trade cannot assure them a championship. Sometimes there is more to life.

either their drive to win can be questioned or their ego's can because anyone not blinded by incredible ego can see this team ain't winning jack squat. and yes, there is more to life than basketball for some guys... just not the guy's who usually win championships, because that's ALL they want. and if that's the case, fine, but it does speak to their drive to win.
