I think that Alex Smith can succeed with this team playing indoors in the shotgun offense that we apparently want to run, where there's little pressure to succeed.

I have been thinking the same thing

this coaching staff loves the shotgun.

the problem in SF (in part) was an offensive philosophy built on power running football and a QB most comfortable in a spread type offense

That's an old list. He signed a one-year extension with the Lions after he was traded.

I think he'd be an upgrade over what we tossed out there this year... Of course, this all nothing but guessing at best, but I can see Smith putting more points on the board for us....
I would also be ok with Drew Stanton. I think he looked pretty decent (which again - would be a major upgrade over what we had this year) in the opportunities he had with the Lions...

QB Kurt Warner UFA Arizona Cardinals[/quote]

6 of them who are "potentially" signable. and i truly believe the great majority are better than anyone the team put on the field even though in the grand scheme of things they were unacceptable as well.

I am no fan of Alex Smith and neither are the fans of his team. He wants out of there buy please not here.

Agree that Smith is intriguing.
-Right offense philosophy.
-Right receivers (for now).
-Smith throws a very nice deep ball.
-Wrong offensive line.
-Some of his mid-range stuff goes all McNabbish and you wonder where the heck it came from.

Wouldn't mind him as one of the veterans the Cardinals bring in.

I want to see at least two veterans and Skelton returned, as well as a couple of draftees. I'd rather see a team w/ a problem of good quality, not bad.

Totally agree.

Alex Smith would succeed here IMO.

I feel sorry for our fans. The fact that we've sunk so low, fallen so pathetically, that we're actually contemplating Alex Smith for this team. If he could perhaps play against our Defense all year, then I'd take him.

If that's the best that will be available this offseason I'd like to see how Stanton does here.

This made me laugh...

Let me ask you, would it be ok if we brought in Shawn Hill to be his backup?:D

Call 1-800-PRO-HELP if you see any of these signs:

You're talking about the draft in October.

You lose any games to any team in the NFC West. "If it's a more than one including any home games don't call, we're not miracle workers."

You sign any QB that was not on any roster day one and he plays.

Your team plays more than three QB's in a season for any reason.

You notice teams rated poorly in any category have curiously outlying performance games against only YOUR team.

If you see one or more of these signs, and your team is not based out of Detroit, it's time to make the call.

I think Carson Palmer would be great here.

Kolb.

Orton, McNabb.

Satan.

Bulger.

In that order.

I was just going to post something similar. How bad is it that we are even remotely wanting Alex Smith? The only time he ever looks good is against the Cards.

At the right price I would take a serious look at Alex Smith. As a previous poster said, he is intriguing. But it would be a one-year deal AT THE RIGHT PRICE.

This team is crying out for REAL leaders and I certainly don't put Joey Porter or Adrian Wilson in that category. With the departure of Warner and Boldin, the leadership factor was decimated IMO. Even given, that Boldin wasn't the leader more recently that he was in his earlier Cardinal career, he was widely admired for his toughness and fiery competiveness.

The Cardinals need to draft SMART players with a BURNING desire to win. Guys in the mold of Tim Tebow. Please no more Levi Browns! And for heaven's sake draft for value, not need. If recent drafts have taught anything, it's that drafting a Levi Brown or Antrel Rolle early to fill in a need eventually blows up in your face. But drafting the best player available in Larry Fitzgerald even when you already have a pro-bowl caliber wide receiver in Anquan Boldin could take you to a Super Bowl. The Chargers didn't hesitate to take Philip Rivers (OK Eli to trade for Rivers) when they already had Drew Brees. Grab the value not the perceived need.

I think Satan is actually an RFA, and ******** if it wont be hell to outbid for him.

Stick a fork in him, the guy is done. OTOH, at least we know he can go deep.

With Satan around, it would make comments like "I'd sell my soul for a touchdown here" a lot more interesting. It doesn't matter though; I'm not sure he could handle the heat in Phoenix anyway.

Most everyone knew that this season was coming. It happens to just about every team. Success is hard to sustain in the NFL. The Cardinals were built into a Super Bowl team and then lost some key players and the inevitable decline occurred. With this off-season however begins the rebuild.

Most teams go out and do all they can to get back on track. Not the same ol Cardinals though. If this team has truly turned the corner and have left their cheap perennial losing ways in the past like every fan wanted to believe after the Super Bowl then this season will fade into a bad memory while the rise back to the the top is quickly bought and paid for by the new Bidwills...i.e. Michael Bidwill.

This off-season is extremely important to this franchise. Like with any major corporation the changes need to start at the very top and trickle down all throughout the organization. That means the Bidwills must start by changing themselves and make some big spending moves. If this does not happen then just as Bickley alluded to, the lean years will return...and many Cards fans won't.

This season did not have to play out this way. Had we had the foresight to sign one of the better QBs or trade for a guy like Jay Cutler we might have even contended. We settled for one of the worst choices at QB and we waited much to long to make a decision by which time the better QBs were gone. We are not very good at trading for QBs and we probably could not competed for any of the better ones because of that old demon money.
