Aside from the 49ers game 1 last year — a game where he threw 2 interceptions and was sacked 7 times, including once for a safety. His lone TD came deep into junk time. A real NFL game—not preseason.

Rather watch him than Stanton, we all know Stanton is garbage. Gabbert at least looked competent running the offense with very little time in the desert in preseason. Stanton has been here for years and still can’t go thru reads and is inaccurate as hell. If we have to suffer they this crappy season at least give us something to watch...and Drew ain’t it!

What does this mean? Gabbert started games last season on purpose and was worse than Stanton.
If we’re going to lose I’d rather watch gabbert do it. They both suck but at least gabbert is a fresh flavor of suck

It going to be so much fun to see K9's reaction if Gabbert suddenly goes 23/33 322 yards 3 TD. :)

It would be the first time in his career he’s thrown for 3 TDS.

He has a career completion percentage of 55% and a career YPA of 6. Some exciting check down action is on the way.

Counterpoint: Watching Drew Stanton is fun as hell.

It’s really not! What is entertaining about a guy with zero touch on his throws and piss poor accuracy, who runs backwards constantly? You must be watching a different player than everyone else. The guy can’t even complete half of his passes. He throws hard to catch balls inaccurately or just flat out misses by a mile. And for a guy who is very inaccurate he tries to force balls into windows he should not be throwing. He’s just bad and shouldn’t even be on the team, and I hope they finally cut ties with him after this year.

IMO some check down action aka the Patriots is exactly what is needed when your Oline sucks. Arians stupid offense of having a QB stand behind a terrible line forever for a long ball to open up is half the problem! Nothing gonna back a defense off like quick passing to slow the rush, then take some shots. Our stinking run run third and long offense is just bad this year! Maybe a quick hitting shorter accurate pass offense is what’s called for, and DS is NOT the Qb for that!

Gabbert has more physical ability than Stanton. There's no question about that. My problem with him is that he's never seemed to grasp the mental aspect and the game has never slowed down for him. I suspect when thing are "live" and not pre-season speed that he will revert to his old habits and be a very inefficient QB. I'd love to be wrong, but under duress, players tend to go back to their old habits/ways.

Can he change, yes, but it's unlikely.

If I did I can't remember, although I probably watched him in one of those condensed-into-30-minutes thing that Directv used to have.

Agreed, it is like the old saying "everyone has a plan, until they get hit in the mouth".

I watched him at Mizzou (Alumni) and in High School. Great physical ability but did not overly impress me with his capacity to adjust to games. Was rattled easily. Saw a couple of his pro games. Same thing. Average at best but always seems to make a bad mistake that costs his team the games.

He wins.

Career record: 9-6, one more it puts him in the playoffs. LOL

Last watched Gabbert play for the Niners, wasn't much to write home about, but I guess he puts up Drew Stanton numbers but just makes it look better.

more yards...slightly higher completions,...more int's

personally I like stanton as our backup... but he is what he is and thats all he will ever be.
the only reason I want to see gabby is to see if maybe he fits BA's system better than the systems he has played in so far. with 7 different o coordinators over his career so far dude would have had to be a HoF level QB to be successful... and if BA's system is as complicated as we have all heard the truth is he wont look any better here this season either... because it takes around 8-10 games as the starter to get the hang of apparently.
But the dude is here. shouldnt we at least learn whether or not he can replace stanton as the backup next season?

the best (hoped for) kinds of progression out of Gabbert is Alex Smith. Looked terrible for years, then, as the team improved around him AND the coaching got better -- looked decent. Now -- Alex Smith is considered an upper tier NFL starter.

at the beginning of the year, I might have bought the premise that with better coaching and better personnel around him -- Gabbert might be something.

Now however: with DJ out, the offensive line on its sixth version in the past 10 games, and the complete lack of WR playmaking outside of Fitz --- is Gabbert pretty much in the same situation he was in back in Jax and SF?

Considering the D has been fairly porous -- Gabbert likely will be in situations where the second half of games is spent down 2+ scores with any premise of a balanced offense out the window.

Doesnt bode well.
