It's about the mentality. Ayton plays like hes scared of contact. He has little chance of improving if he can't get over that
Should he, then, be treated as a Power Forward as he was at UofA? And should the Suns, then, be looking for a role playing Center?

Final:

Hawks 118 - Suns 112

Suns need some more meetings.

Have you ever seen a player learn how to get over a fear of contact? This is who he was in colleges. It’s who he is. He’s pretty good on offense. Good rebounder. Horrible on defense.

His coach has told him to be aggressive. He proves time and he again he is not. That's on him

His coach has also told him to avoid fouls and hasn't communicated how to do so while also being aggressive.

Igor Kokoskov is stunting the team's development, if not outright sabotaging it.

Aggressive in setting picks at the 3-point line?

As long as Igor is coach, Ayton is not going to develop as a Center.

He did not at all play like he feared contact in college.

At this point, is there a single player on the roster who is steadily improving on Igor Kokoskov's watch?

Anyone on here ready to agree with me that the suns screwed up picking Ayton over Doncic?

Sure. There are a lot of posters here that have felt that way for awhile. But there's a lot of us that would still disagree, we didn't draft Ayton for what he can do in 2019. Luka would have been a great pick too but we've been in search of a dominant big for a few centuries now so we did the right thing IMO.

This is why I wanted at least a temporary fix at point guard to find out if it's the coach or the players.

Do you understand how pick and rolls work? One player sets a pick and then rolls to the basket to get a shot.

Ayton sets a pick and then just stops.

Well it would be better if he got in the post but he tends to pass it out even when he has the advantage (including from 2 feet away).

He has an insanely soft mentality

He was aggressive in college, so I’m not sure where you’re getting that. Ayton’s problem is he’s being improperly utilized in the offense. The 4th quarter was evidence for why this team needs a PG. so many contested outside jumpers when you have a big who’s shooting >60% underneath the basket. Also, Ayton is asked to set 3 picks per possession. You don’t draft a center #1 to have him set picks all game. If that’s the case, we should’ve just kept Len

Ayton sets a pick and then sets another pick by design. This isn’t soft mentality, this is poor play design

At this point, while we also need a point guard, you can't argue anymore that Igor isn't also a major problem. The best point guard in the world wouldn't fix this.

If this game doesn't get the attention of what's left of the Suns front office I don't know what will.

I've seen Ayton hanging out at the 3-point stripe to set a pick too long, which I assume is by Igor's design.

By the time he starts making his way to the hoop for a pass, there is too much traffic in the lane.

They even got a really good point guard play tonight. You just can't lose the rebounding battle by 16, shoot 10-18 from the free throw line, and expect to win the game.

Yeah that's why we were much better with him on the court than off.

I think BC is talking about how Igor sets up his offense.

100% correct. And like TJ, I saw every college game Ayton played.

Ayton isn't the problem. Igor is.
