If you can recruit SoCal, I'll throw my weight behind your candidacy.

I have players that came from originally:

SoCal
Canada
Tucson
Illinois
Phoenix area
Texas (DFW area)
Michigan
Baltimore
New York

I am good to go!

Boosters are now pushing to get Lisa Love out and get Mike Haynes in as AD.

Big stuff happening right now. Great to see Sun Devil passion.

Need to get Gary Walker in there - ASU Alum, big connections to sporting world, former agent (mainly baseball), fundraising expert, turned a stint as NAU's AD.

Hmmm - what was the edit? :D

I originally agreed to the deal, but the principal decision maker said I had to pull the offer minutes later.

Sorry about that. I hope you'll keep that between us, though, so that I don't get a bad reputation around the country.

Get to know these two names:

- Jim Leavitt
- Mark Helfrich

I'm guessing you'll be hearing rumors about them in the next day or so, unless ASU has fixed the leaks in their boat.

Isn't Leavitt the dude that got fired for hitting one of his players? Although I guess the field is named after Frank Kush so...

If Helfrich is on the list, where are the more accomplished coordinators around the game?

Thank god. I had not looked at the news since the afternoon when I heard his hire was a done deal. Seriously, I would have preferred Dennis was still here versus hiring June Jones. There is no point to it at all.

ASU needs to clean house and can Lisa Love. We are a laughing stock nationally at this point. Plus we probalby lost any chance of brining in a guy here who is going to bring in Top 25 talent which is what we need to compete in this conferance.

June Jones is a better option than Leavitt, IMO. Leavitt won a lot of games at USF, but he's a douche as a human being.

After he hit his player, he made things worse by telling players and coaches to lie about it. I wouldn't let my son play for Jim Leavitt.

His teams won, but they were also very undisciplined and were consistently one of the national leaders in penalties.

Agree, Leavitt would be a horrible choice. Time is ticking and February 1st is approaching. Rodriguez has already offered Devin Fuller a 4-star qb out of New Jersey a scholarship. ASU can't wait another week to get a coach. Looking back, Leach would of been a pretty good hire for Lisa Love.

Would be a great hire. The problem is the NCAA is probably going to slap the show-cause penalty to him which means he's basically un-hireable until the penalty runs out. I don't think he deserves that penalty but word is he's going to get it. Mid-December is when everything should be known about OSU/Tressel in regards to NCAA penalties.

Jason Wilcox - name is getting around. Some chatter about Leavitt as well.

Love / Crow / SP screwed this up so badly. No real game plan other than JJ. The meeting in NY with Sumlin / Fedora was all a smoke screen to buy time for negotiations for JJ with no back up plan.

I'm not endorsing either of them. I'm just re-stating the names I've heard will be at the top of the new list. The list will now have an absolute preference for coaches who have no buyout issues.

No clue why the Helfrich love. At all. He was here once. That is a true statement. Now he's at Oregon. that is also a true statement. Other than that, I have no explanation or reasoning.

I've run out of rage at this point. I'm resigned to the fact this search is being run by people who know even less about the coaching community than I do. The fact that went after Sumlin and were appalled that he could command more than $2.5 mil per tells me everything I need to know.

Jon Gruden was talking up Leavitt on Doug and Wolfe this afternoon.

A lot of the posters here have said that they want a guy to build a program. Leavitt built South Florida from nothing, so he's got that going for him...which is nice.

I like Gruden and he really endorsed his boy Leavitt.

Mike Tomlin called ASU on Ron English's behalf and they've yet to call Ron to see if he's interested. Our administration could care less what people in football say.

Leavitt is not without warts, but at this point who isn't.. He certainly would offer the highest upside of any of the "realistic" candidates, but really I've said it all along, they need to throw the damn kitchen sink at Kirby Smart..

alas, I am resigned to the fact it will be a retread, and Leavitt to me seems like the one with the most upside, I don't understand Helfrich at all, and again if we are going to go after an SEC cordinator why the hell not Kirby Smart???

Matt any insight into this?

Does Mike Haynes have any Administrative experience? Or is this just another "Hire Danny White as a Coach because he was a great Sun Devil" kinda thing?

Thats depressing. I assume English called Tomlin and asked him to do it? I imagine English is chomping at the bit for the ASU job, he really seems to respect Snyder and even hold him in higher regard than Lloyd Carr. He seems like such the obvious choice at this point, this is awful.

Probably more than you'd like. I'm from Alabama and my family is plugged into the program. They like Kirby, but they're not terrified of him leaving because Saban is the defensive mind in that program. Kirby's a good recruiter who's been waiting on the Georgia job, his alma mater. With everyone but Georgia falling apart in the SEC East, it looks like Richt is going to hang on to the job for awhile. He does not want to leave the South, which is smart, since he has no clue what it takes to run a program elsewhere.
