Collins is number one choice. Old school and cerebral. Good at developing young players. He’s a stop gap, but a needed stop gap.

Mike Brown is not old for coaching age. Has coached some great players won a ton of games.
Still, in the mix with GS understand the current NBA systems

Has won games for GS filling in.

He said "Larry"

You also have to remember that the game has moved toward analytics and McD is a big believer. I'm not sure how fond of analytics some of these old-school guys like Collins and JVG are.

How's that working for McD?

Ettore Messina. Hire him away from the Spurs. Considered one of the best coaches ever in Europe. Has been working under Pop for three years.

This is the guy they should hire.

If the Suns want a polar opposite to Watson an interesting guy would be Ron Adams but I kind of doubt he wants to become a HC I think at his age he's fine being the top assistant and defensive guru for the Warriors. He'd definitely be a short term hire he's 69 years old he's not going to be coaching for too long but he's an old school guy and a brilliant defensive coach.

Another name since people keep bringing up the Spurs, for obvious reasons, is Chip Engelland. He's the shooting coach and has been for over 10 years. He's a fascinating guy he's been on my short list for UCLA's next coach for several years now. He grew up in LA, was a ballboy for UCLA in Wooden's last year there, he played for Coach K at Duke. He's the guy widely credited with making Kawhi Leonard into a great player by completely retooling his shot and working with him on his ball skills.

I think Engelland would be a great choice but again I'm not clear on if he wants to be a head coach

Doug Collins would be my pick too, although I believe he's pretty ancient nowadays.

Not as ancient as Larry Brown on that list...lol He's 77. I think, however, both Brown and Collins have the style of coaching needed for these young guns on the Suns.

Pop isn't going to coach forever...I bet the Spurs want to keep him, or someone like him around to replace Pop.

Messina or Blatt are guys I'd real interested in. Blatt never stood a chance in Cleveland.

Since we are talking about Europeans, Igor Kokoskov would be an interesting choice. He is highly respected in Europe, and has a lot of NBA experience as an assistant. He was a part of Detroit when they won the championship, and he was an assistant for the Suns back when their offense didn't look like crap. Most recently, he coached Slovenia in Euro Basket, winning the first place.

Just hire Steve as an assistant.

There does seem to be a disturbing ghost here though. Assistant coaches who seem to undermine their head coaches in order to get their job.

Lindsay Hunter
Earl Watson
Jay Triano

I am reading into this, of course.

I got the idea with Earl that he just plain talked too much. And most of it was self-serving fluff.

Mark Jackson is cancer disguised as a coach. That Warrior team played well despite him and he was fond of the same "us vs them" crap that Watson espoused. This is a team full of raw talent, they don't need someone to tuck them in at night, they need someone to teach them how to play better.

George Karl is a good coach but I don't think he has the patience for it anymore, not the right coach for a young team.

I'd take Doug Collins.

Rick Pitino?!?!? Why would he even be a consideration?! He is a college coach, he won because he had top recruits and he only got those through bribery, hookers and cocaine. In the NBA where players are paid enough to get their own hookers and blow he fell flat on his face.

I don't think that George Karl and Doug Collins have intentions to get back on NBA stage. Not everyone is Hubie Brown.ű

Kokoshkov did a good job for the slovenian national team, I wasn't particularly impressed from him when he was a Suns assistant coach.

Chip Engelland is one of the best specialists, seems a good teacher and a bright mind, he would be an excellent addition to the coaching staff, however I have no idea why he would leave the Spurs for the Suns, unless he wants to be a head coach which he never expressed a desire for (as far as I know).

I always loved Steve Nash's quiet, cold-blooded professionalism, plus he is a Suns-hero, so adding him to the staff is definitely not out of question.

What do you think all NBA players are? You usually dont get drafted unless your best of the best. Unless your 7ft tall (len). I hope McD brings in Pitino for an interview. The guy always had a winning program in college teaching the game of Xs & Os to mold them into winners. Who better to continue that with our young team?

I am willing to give Triano consideration. After listening to him, watching the team respond last night, and know what Steve Nash thinks of him as a coach, it’s worth at least a look.

I am a bit skeptical about hiring the assistant again. But Triano does have head coaching experience, which is different from Watson and Horny.
