Guys I am a Rangers (Soccer) fan from Scotland and our club has been raped by faceless (And fat faced) "Businessmen" for the past 4 years. Today we have been linked with your owner Robert Sarver.

Could you help the hundreds of thousands of Rangers fans desperate for our plight to be over and give us some information about Sarver?

Is he going to be another criminal coming to milk our cash cow or will he have a reasonable interest in helping our club become the great institution it has always been since 1872?

A worried Glasgow Rangers Fan.

Sarver made some HUGE mistakes early in his tenure. Recently, he figured out that he needed to let his basketball people handle basketball stuff.

If this happened five years ago, I would have told you "You're in trouble", but I think he is smart enough to let the experts handle sports stuff at this point.

First, welcome to ASFN.

How is Robert Sarver linked to the Rangers? I take that is a professional Scottish football club.

Robert Sarver is a reputable owner of the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury. He has a background in banking. He has learned a great deal since buying the Suns in 2004.

We've been shafted over the recent years by owners who made a real mess of our Club.

The power struggle has been going on for some time.

Robert Sarver's financial commitment to the Suns was questioned in the early years after he purchased the Suns in 2004. However, he spent the money on the Suns but not always wisely. He has learned from his experience as a sports owner and is now considered to be an owner that is committed to winning. More importantly, I think Robert Sarver has learned to hire professionals to make sports decisions.

Great, thanks for the reply.

It seems it is legitimate as the Rangers official Historian has made these comments:

The Robert Sarver interest has been ongoing for a few weeks. It has not been played through the media and he has done his due diligence and approached this in a thoroughly professional manner. He has no connections with the Park or King groups, but I gather from press reports he would work with all parties keen on the club progressing. His interest is in taking the club back to the top and into the Champions League - and has the resources to get the club there. This is a great opportunity for Rangers, but we will need to see how it plays out from here.
He has taken advice from some Rangers sources, but, in keeping with the professionalism of the man, the business will conducted behind closed doors, I imagine.

and later wrote this...

This has been and will be done in a proper Rangers manner, with due respect for all the parties.

And...

I gather if he is successful, he will invest a substantial amount of money into the team, immediately!

P.S - Can we have your cheerleaders?

Can we have Amy Macdonald? :)

Is she a Ranger fan? I'm a huge fan of her music.

If they were ours to give away, I'm sure a few of us would have already put in a claim. Not me of course, at least not without my wife's permission. But best of luck with Sarver and your Rangers.

She is currently going out with one of our players, Richard Foster.

She's also worth £6million

We'll trade :)

Thanks for the info.

If only life were so easy. ;)

Too bad she does not tour the United States. I'm still waiting on her fourth album.

Hopefully she'll tour the states soon. Icing on the cake would be her taking Ricky with her and forgetting to bring him home :)

Sarver came in here and arrogantly thought he knew better than basketball minds around him. He made some huge mistakes in regards to managing the financials of this team. He basically was trying to run this like a business and not a basketball franchise. He touted his "non-basketball" approach which was a failure. It probably squandered any shot we had with the talent we had. He "sold" off picks to save a buck and balked at signing a player that would have impacts for years to come. Then when he decided to spend money to make up for previous mistakes he wasn't smart with some of those decisions. He has also damaged the teams reputation around the league with his bravado, business approach and ego.

Having said that, it appears he is trying to turn the corner and realized that he needs "basketball" minds to help run this franchise. It appears that he is at least trying to repair the damage done. The team is trying to build through young talent and is now letting our new GM do his job. As stated above, it also appears he is attempting to spend more wisely. 10 years later we have nothing really to show for his tenure but at least I kind of feel like there is light at the end of the tunnel. It took him a long time to "get it" IMO.

It appears Sarver has learned from his mistakes and if he lets "soccer guys" do their job that is probably a good thing. I wouldn't label Sarver as a crook one bit so I don't think you have that to worry about. Our pain is probably your gain if he learned anything here.

It works for me as well. Wow...I wonder why he is hot to trot for the club?!

A Rangers club legend coaches his kids soccer team, and I'm betting he got a lot of feedback from Stan Groenke, who is majority owner of Arsenal, about having a team in England. As you know, Groenke is majority owner of the Nuggets.
