Memphis might want to dump salary considering they just signed Zach to an extension and Gasol will need to be re-signed as well as Battier. They might get into luxury tax territory otherwise.

I would be interested in Mayo, Gay and Arthur. Mayo and Gay for Vince would work once Gay's BYC expires. But since that is on July 1st I don't think a trade could be done before the new CBA is in place and who knows what is possible or not possible under new rules.

seriously... seriously? they're going to just give AWAY Rudy Gay for salary cap considerations? I mean... "Battier needs to be resigned" but they're going to give up Rudy Gay? And all we're doing is giving them Vince? Not two first round picks or anything?

That sounds about as realistic as the Suns getting lottery picks and Demarr Derozan for Nash/Lopez... oh wait... that was your ridiculous idea as well.

Gay is not their franchise player.

They are just making franchise history without him. It is Randolph if anything.

this is the height of stupidty. Rudy Gay is MUCH younger than Randolph and they're an eight seed. With him, next year, they might be a contender. but yeah, they'll give him up for literally nothing. afterall, they have to resign Shane Battier!

You have it wrong. It was Mayo AND Gay.

oh... right. my bad. That will definitely happen!

I mean come on... yeah, they'll move Mayo. They already tried and will probably do so again, but they ain't giving up Gay for literally nothing.

We'll throw in Lopez to even out the trade.

They won't trade Gay. He is their franchise player.

Maybe we can get Marc Gasol and move Gortat to PF which IMO is his natural position.

It would be hard to get him because of the salaries we have but there some ways we can trim salary.

Trade Chill and our 1st, and may be a future first to Cleve for a TPE.
Let Brooks go to complete the Tragic Dragic trade.
Trade Lopez for a future pick or a shopping cart with a bad front wheel. (may be Cleve takes him too)
We could also pre work a deal with MP for 3-4 yrs, cutting back another 1-2 mill

This leaves 8 guys under contract for around 40 mill.
Hill (LLE) and Dowdell... minimum (400K)
2 other guys (MLE and Pg?)
and Gasol (10 mil).

Gortat is not a pf. He is a center. If he was a pf, he would have found time next to Howard in Orlando.

This is one of the worst plans I have seen. Just give away every asset we have for nothing and hope we can build something out of thin air. We are not getting Gasol from Memphis.

Oh yeah, that could happen. All we have to do is get the City of Phoenix to dress up like Los Angeles.

I can see I may have to start enforcing the "stupid trade idea forum" policy again.

Oh and Slin, every basketball fan I talked to this weekend....

From Lakers fans to Celtics fans...

Consider Gortat a top 10 center. The Lakers fan said "It just shows you how bad ass Dwight Howard is that Gortat couldn't get minutes behind him. I would trade Bynum straight up for him"

Oh why we would want Gasol even, Gortat clearly is a top 5 center!!

Because we can move Gortat to a different position. Clearly, he can't play power forward but we do need a shooting guard. Seriously, I think Gasol has at least as much up-side as Marcin so I'd love to get him if we could do it Lakers style (a lot for a little).

Clearly must be true then.

Guess that is why Chandler finishes in the top 5 for DPOTY while Gortat isn't even on the map. 2 good months of averaging 13/9 with an asterisk of Nash feeding him for high percentage shots isn't putting anyone in the top 10 let alone top 5.
Teams don't gameplan against Gortat.

I`m guessing that even Danny DeVito will play better than Gortat with Nash feeding him. I mean - yeah, for sure.

how exactly do you make the argument that Gasol is better than Gortat when he averages 11.7/7.0/1.7 versus Gortat's 13/9.3/1.3? I mean, even in starts for Orlando (when Howard was out) Gortat still averaged close to double doubles.

By the way - few months ago I told you about Maciej Lampe (ex-Phoenix). Yesterday he won the second most important European Cup with his team Unics Kazan. He was nominated to best team of all tournament. Nice to see that he is rebuilding his career ;-)

And Zach Randolph next to him averaged 12+rpg. How many does Frye take?

The season before he averaged 15/9. Gasol is doing this for 3 years now, Gortat for 3 months. Also more blocks, double steals, triple assists.

Gortat's stats are inflated because of 3 things:
- Steve Nash, no argument here
- the Suns pace, you can't argue that either
- he came to a pathetic rebounding team

right and two years ago, he averaged 7.3 rebounds... without Randolph.

Gortat for 3 months. Also more blocks, double steals, triple assists.

and yet every time Gortat got starts for Orlando he averaged a double double.

Gortat's stats are inflated because of 3 things:

Nash was atrocious most of the time Gortat's been here. And if this was so easy with Nash, why was Lopez so pathetic with him? why did KT never amount those stats when he started at C?

- the Suns pace, you can't argue that either

they slowed down considerably over the second half of the season.

- he came to a pathetic rebounding team

which means he had to fight for every rebound basically by himself.

bottom line, it's almost impossible to say one player is better than the other based on what we saw this season (and pretty much any other time Gortat ever got major burn in Orlando).

Don't forget he had the wind at his back and he was wearing lucky shoes too. Watch a friggin' game. Gortat is MUCH better than you give him credit for. You throw out stat after stat to show how bad he is and when someone gives you stats that show you're wrong, then you start throwing out this kind of BS.

Amen, each one of these "reasons" is bordering on absurd.

He was a rookie you know? 12/7/2/1/1 in 30mpg about what Gortat did for the full season this year.

Nash was atrocious most of the time Gortat's been here. And if this was so easy with Nash, why was Lopez so pathetic with him? why did KT never amount those stats when he started at C?

Lopez averaged like 14-15 ppg for a good run before the back injury..

Lopez also had a 30 point scoring game against one of the better centers in the league, something Gortat hasn't.

Actually you should be happy. I`m pretty sure most of the users will agree - you should win IG Nobel for your reasearch project "How bad Gortat is".
