Probably. But hey, we have to at least try to have optimism after a nice win, right?

Only way Cardinals can clinch the wild card is if every team in front of them lose at least once except the Bucs. That's only if the cardinals win out.

... But, we are still in the playoff hunt. Until we are mathematically eliminated, we are in the mix... Probably for about 5 more days, so lets try to enjoy it... haha
The good news is that 2 of the teams in front of us we beat(Washington/Tampa) but we lost to Minny who is still falling. But we have a tough road to hoe with @ Seattle, @ Miami, and @ LA. especially given the fact that we've been abysmal on the road this season. Not easy games at all and even at home against N.O. isn't a cake walk. I believe we need to win 9 games minimum to have a chance.

Wait, so teams in front of the Cardinals in the standings must lose in order for the Cardinals to catch them?

Obviously but the point I was trying to make is that we need the teams just to lose once. Tie breakers don't matter, so since we beat Tampa we can't tie with them, Minnesota beat us it don't matter cuz we have the tie on our record. Some people don't get it.

The Cardinals need help but several of the teams in front of us are playing each other. So that means teams are going to lose and the Cards can catch them if the Cards can win out:

  • Giants - Cowboys, Lions, Eagles, Redskins
  • Lions - Bears, Giants, Cowboys, Packers
  • Falcons - Rams, 49ers, Panthers, Saints
  • Bucs - Saints, Cowboys, Saints, Panthers
  • Skins - Eagles, Panthers, Bears, Giants
  • Vikes - Jags, Colts, Packers, Bears
  • Packers - Seahawks, Bears, Vikes, Lions

Falcons have an easy schedule to finish the season and should lock up the NFC South. Otherwise it looks like the NFC East will beat up on each other. We need the Bucs to lose a game.

Need to root for the Seahawks next week to beat the Packers.

The Bucs need to lose two games - either that or the NFC East teams need to totally knock each other out minus the Cowboys (Giants would have to lose 3 of the final 4).. even winning out produces some fairly long odds.

Not really. The Bucs going 2-2 (3 division games and the Cowboys) and a bunch of .500 teams losing 1 is not long odds at all. (Of course, the long odds are a 5-6-1 team winning 4 in a row...)

We beat the Bucs earlier in the year, so they only need to lose one more time. The Vikes, Packers, Skins also need to lose once more, and the Falcons need to lose two more times... All the while, we need to run the table and not lose again.
Very complicated set of scenarios... But, it's essentially down to us not losing the remainder of the season and hoping the above teams lose at least once, and in the case of the Falcons, twice...

I look at this way, it makes this season worth it if the Cards can somehow continue to keep staying mathematically in the playoff hunt. That gives us all something to look forward to each week. Even though all the stars have to align perfectly, at least there is still something to shoot for.

The bucs need to lose twice. If they go 3-1 then they are 10-6 and that is better than the best Cardinals scenario of 9-6-1.

We need the Bucs or Falcons to lose twice and the Packers and Redskins and Vikings to lose once and in addition the Cardinals need to win out. Pretty long odds to me. The Saints are only a 1/2 game behind the Cardinals and they are playing for a wild card since they get the Bucs twice in 3 weeks and the Falcons and the Cardinals so they have a lot to play for and they control their own destiny, all they have to do is win out too and they are in. They do not need help from anyone.

That's not quite true - the Falcons are two games ahead of the Saints, so beating them once and winning the rest of their games wouldn't win the division for the Saints. And even though they play one another, both the Giants and Redskins could finish ahead of the Saints for a Wild Card and there's nothing they can do about it.
