I like what I hear from Whiz in Urban's blog.

It's kind of telling. Obviously the team didn't like Leinart anddon't think he earned anything, especially their respect and, if Whiz knew things would be this bad, he would have kept ML. But DA and Hall have played so bad that they didn't see that happening. We all kind of thought DA could be bad but I doubt any of us thought he could be a bad as he has played. He's easliy been the worst QB in the league.

THey didn't think DA would be that bad? Has he ever seen DA play prior to cutting Matt? FCOL.

I didnt see anything in the article claiming the team didnt like Matt or think he earned anything............... maybe the coach........ he just mentioned that Max and John earned their spots.

It shows what we all knew already,...this coach is clueless about the QB position.

.
Lets say you got two kids,......one is maybe kinda lazy, a little smart mouthed,.... but he completes 65% of his passes, knows your playbook inside and out, and puts points on the board...
The other kid works his ass off, has a great attitude, tries really hard, but just cannot seam to put it together..........

Which kid do you keep on your team??

If you are coaching peewee football, you keep the second kid, reward the hard work and great attitude.
.
But if you are getting paid millions per year to win football games,...you keep the first kid and find a way to deal with the fact that you just do not like him.

Please tell me your not attempting to describe Matt Leinart with this analogy?

It was just a general example.
NFL offenses are complicated....it takes generally about a year working in one to get basically comfortable with it,.....then another half to full season to know it inside and out,....which is required in order to read the defensive set, and make the proper adjustments at the line.
Matt knew this offense, that much at least, showed in pre season..... right now we do not have a single QB on the roster who knows this offense well enough to run it even marginally effectively.
I do not think Matt was lazy, the kid actually worked pretty hard to learn IMO......the analogy was just to point out that even if a player is not what you consider an ideal,....as a pro coach it is your responsiblity to put the players on the field who give you the best chance to win..........and rather anyone likes it or not....Matt Leinart gave this team a much better chance to win than any other QB we have.

Part of Matt's problem is that he absolutely DID NOT know the offense inside and out. Which is downright embarrassing for a kid that has been in the offense for his 4th straight season.

Seriously. Maybe he didn't know the offense inside and out, but he certainly knew it better than an undrafted free agent rookie, a 5th round pick out of the Patriot League, and a free agent signee who was worse than JaMarcus Russell the prior year.

Because in pre-season he was running plays with WR's lined in the wrong places as told by Whiz in post game pressers/interviews. It was talked about ad nauseum on here.

The coach in the post game PC would allude to the above fact and how frustrating it was and used it as an excuse for not scoring. A QB who has been in the the system for 4 years shouldn't be running plays with WR's lining up in the wrong spot. No way no how.

It was pretty bad when you would see a guy like DA come in and notice it and tell the WR where to line up only being here a few months.

Yep, and I am pretty sure "not knowing the offense" is not the top problem with either DA or Max Hall.

Are you referring to the blog? Or something else?

To the blog, mostly. I think that Urban couches the presser to make it a little bit more palatable to fans. I'm tired of hearing Whis complain about Warner not being around anymore. Get over it, Coach. You chose these guys. You're the HC. Your offense is ranked last in the NFL. Your offense hasn't scored a meaningful touchdown in four games. Your team is 3-9 against the easiest schedule in the NFL.

Take ownership of Derek Anderson being Derek Anderson. Don't talk about Kurt Warner. Everyone who watched Derek Anderson play the last two seasons weren't surprised by what you put out there on the field.

EDIT: I'm sorry, I copied and pasted in the wrong link. I correct the link to Sando's transcript of the press conference, where IMO Whis comes off a little less reflective than Darren makes him sound.

Wow Shane really you still can't admit your boy Whiz screwed the pooch on cutting Leinart? For christ sakes anyone who does't think this team is way better off with Leinart at QB at this point is just flat ignorant! Our coach is flat out stupid you dont' cut the veteran who has been in the system for years and knows the offense better than any of the QB's possibly could and sat and learned from a HOF for a few years! Whiz f'd up deal with it and it sounds to me in this article he STILL is not accepeting responsibility for one of the dumbest decisions a HC in Arizona has EVER made!!!

I never said anywhere that it wasn't a mistake. It doesn't make Leinart not knowing the play book any less pathetic.

Nor does it make oaken far fetched description of Matt accurate either. Can you quote where I said Whiz made the right choice in this thread?

Yes, it was a mistake getting rid of Leinart when they did. Not convinced the record would be that much different.

If Janikowski and Drew Brees would have cooperated, Whiz' tanking of the season would be working...

I am glad that these questions are being asked and I am glad that Whisenhunt is answering them. Hoping that we see this issue resolved in free agency and the draft

I think he would have done better, but I don't think he was "QBOF" which essentially is what we are looking for at this point.

So I think The Leen-eart would have won us a couple more games. I also think we would have still lost the division title, missed the play-offs, and got a crappier draft pick this year.

So in my world, some times things happens for a reason.
The day we get a QB good enough for all of us to remove DA, Hall, and The Leen-eart from our memory is the day I long for. Go draft! oops I meant Cardinals. :)

Andrew Luck is the only NFL ready QB in the draft. So lets hope he is there when we draft
